Chat Ban
I was chat banned because i told a fact about H.P. Lovecraft... Someone asked me if the Real H.P. Lovecrafted named his cat Ni**er-Man, i toled him this was true. And than i got banned for saying the n-word... I even told them that this was real and not some made up rasism. I love H.P. Lovecraft for his storys and he in fact WAS a bit rasist, and his cat name is rasist. But its just a fact, its nothing a made up in anyway. I finde it quit sad to be banned for telling this even tho i can understand it, but for me, its just a sad fact about a great author and his rather dark side.

If someone sends screenshots to mods, even without context, I guess you can get muted.

I can't believe us gamers are still oppressed like this.

“Use of derogatory, offensive terms on official servers is not allowed. “ -Quote from official server rules.

Context doesn’t really matter in this situation.

By those very rules he did not use any derogatory terms, simply mentioned a proper name. Context always matters.

I’m pretty sure that the gamer word is a derogatory term. The context that which it’s applied, be it a name, a historical quote, or a slur, is entirely irrelevant here. Mordhau isn’t the place for discussion about controversial topics.

The gamer word is a derogatory term yes, but Lovecraft's cat wasn't named "Gamerword", he was named "Gamerwordman" which means it's just a proper name related to a famous author and should be treated as nothing more than a name IMO. It's almost like those people that wanted to ban The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from schools.

If somebody’s steam name was “Gamerwordman”, do you think they’d care about historical accuracy or context? It’s clearly racially charged, and considering how Lovecraft was kinda a racist POS, it’s not like it’s intended to be a coincidental or ironic usage of it. Lovecraft named his cat something undeniably racist, with the intention of demeaning that group. Using that name “educationally”, outside of the context of discussing the flawed personal views of historical authors is entirely unecessary.

As a Steam name it would be an entirely different context from a conversation, that's not a proper comparison. There's actually a lot of discussion as to wether Lovecraft was ultra racist or he was just at the level of the average person back then, it is unknown with what intent he named his cat. As a matter of fact, there's an instance of a relatively famous dog that was straight up named "Gamerword" who was killed during WW2 and was properly buried by his owner, you can visit his grave to this day IIRC.
You seem to be getting heated so i'll leave it up to here.

You are wrong there, actualy his family got the cat when he was a kid. So i guess he didnt choose the name ;)
The Cat appear in his storys, so making it a fiktional charakter based on a real cat.

So i guess he didnt name his cat to be " something undeniably racist, with the intention of demeaning that group" because he simply didnt name it himself.

So maybe context IS IN FACT helpfull ;)

I haven't said anything emotionally charged in the slightest, so i'm not too sure where you're getting the impression that i'm "heated". That being said, steam names being different context wasn't the point I was trying to make, I was just attempted to refute your point of "Gamerwordman" being a proper name, making it acceptable. Considering that steam obviously wouldn't tolerate that, I just gave an example of how Mordhau wasn't being unreasonable in any way, through banning for the usage of the gamer word. You're also missing the point that it doesn't matter if the average person was super racist back that, or if Lovecraft was an outlier. Either way, it's still racist, and not tolerated by today's standards. I'm not too sure what your point about the dog being named a slur is defending either, are you just giving evidence to people being racist pre civil rights movement? If you're continuing the discussion, could you elaborate?

I looked it up, it's unclear whether he named it or not, but all the same, it doesn't matter if he or his family named it; it's still obviously racially charged. You're arguing pedantics.

Im totally against any racism and discrimination, and hate to read these things in game chat, but being forced to refer as Lovecraft cat as "Gamerword-man" I find it ridiculous.

I mean, it's mostly comedic. People are fine with just substituting a letter in the name as well and I doubt you'll get much serious flak for saying it in an appropriate setting.
