Shields were NEVER hard to deal with if used properly.
Kick > Shields since the game was released. Also you can just literally walk around them.
Shields block your view like mad even though you would be peaking over it IRL and have more vision as video games can't replicate the human vision (just like how looking down iron sights in shooters wouldn't actually block your vision IRL).
Shields IRL were insanely good in a fight whether it was 1v1 or 1vX. In Mordhau, they are practically worthless. You will always be doing less work than the guy who is whirling around with his big 2 hander. Always.
Why bring a shield and risk using a 1 handed weapon with short reach and get kicked spammed to death when you can just bring a big beefy 2 hander and cleave heads?
They need to stop pooping on shields and make them a viable option just like other weapons. Because of kicks, there is no "niche" for shields to hold gates or choke points. I would LOVE to see this, but because the stupid kick mechanic exists, we will never see it.
Honestly, just get rid of kicks and add a stamina cost to blocking various hits. This would make bringing the Maul, Mace, and Sledgehammer more viable. Given the shields currently are made of wood too, you could even have shields need durability and can only take so many hits. That would be a neat mechanic.
But no, for now we are stuck with poopy shields that have no use. Anyone trying to "hold the line" with shields is just going to get kick spammed down and fire potted.
At least Bucklers and Targes can be thrown now hilariously enough.

You guessed it. Kicks.
Since release every single update has been one stop forward and two steps back.
except the new block mode is literally useless against anyone with half a brain because there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop a kick. the only way it will be "better for choke points" (as the patch notes say) is if the entire enemy team suddenly forgets how to kick.
i honestly can't wrap my mind around how stupid this design change is. at least let me use kicks to counter kicks while in block stance.
Kind of why I said that the transition phase that leaves you vulnerable needs to go, and movement and turn cap should be buffed a bit. That way it's not completely useless.
In other news, a regular parry can block a kick, but held block can't. Kinda stupid. Honestly think either both should block, or neither should.
