GPU high pitched noise when 144fps
I have gtx 1080 and i7-3770k and when I limit the fps to 144 fps I get high pitched noise from my pc (most likely GPU). When limiting fps to 60, no noise. Anyone knows is there a fix to this by adjusting vertical syncs or something.

(I'm aware that the more you push your gpu it can create interesting sounds)

It's probably the fan, although some GPUs can make noise that sounds like a SSD reading/writing. You're asking your GPU to output images faster than usual, so the noise generated isn't that unusual.

When is the last time you've dusted out your PC? Should do it at least once every 6 months depending on how messy of a person you are.

clean a dust or ignore i noise. gpu can handle big temperatures

dusted my pc a month ago, mordhau is the first game i've noticed that cause the noise. Other games do not produce this sound even tho fps is at 144

is not dust its called coil whine, look it up, some brands are worse than others

The electric whine or the noise it is well known thing and it is normal during high framerate. You could just cap it to less than 200FPS.

It is most likely coil whine. Your gpu gets under more load, draws more power and it starts. It is rather common problem nowadays due to lower quality components (imo).
To learn more about it Google "gpu coil whine".

I've been googling all this time and so far found a solution to undervolt my gpu to reduce coil whine (apparently it wouldn't do any harm to performance or damage the gpu). Haven't tried it yet but if anyone has experience of undervolting your gpu would be nice to hear about it.

My GPU is AMD, and AMD now comes with WattMan, which can be used to increase, or decrease the GPU voltage. I imagine Nvidia has something similar these days if you go to their site. If not there are also third party tools (of which I forgot most of the names) which can help.

Just be aware that messing with the voltage can cause weird things to happen occasionally.

I've had coil whine in every single gpu I've owned over the past decade. You're pretty much guaranteed to get it but how bad it is varies from card to card and it also depends on how much its being used.

Yeah, I only get that sound during the start up of the game, while this intro screen loads my GPU starts to make a high pitched shriek: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1735403448
The devs should fix that so we don't blow up our hardware, gtx 1070 strix :emofdr:

Probably just coil whine. It's really common and can be very anoying. There isn't really anything you can do about it.

And for the people that think this has something to do with the game, it's not, it's a hardware problem not software.

Edit: No need to be afraid of coil whine, it doesn't cause any problems with performance and it doesn't break hardware. It's just an anoying sound. Nothing to worry about.

I have a gtx1080 and a gsync monitor at 144fps and I also have coil whine while playing Hordhau, there is no fix for that and is a bit annoying.

alright guys, here's update:

I've undervolted my gpu to be at max 850mV, everything is stable and the coil whine is way less than before(no hits on performance yet). I'm currently pushing it how low can I go to make it almost non noticable. 750mV and the game crashes. So working between 850mV and 750mV to find the sweet spot.

EDIT: 775mV seems to be the sweet spot, still little coil whine but it's bearable.
