I don't think the rapier is a noob weapon, it's just not as good as most people make it out to be. It's a good weapon, but it has some weaknesses that balance it out. For starters, any one who uses a rapier has to stab to deal any decent damage against armor. This alone tends to make them predictable, as 80% of the attacks they'll throw at you are stabs. Another trend is that most rapier users aren't heavily armored, so you can usually deal with them in a strike or two.

Arming sword from a raw cost to effect standpoint.

It deals more thrust damage than the rapier everyone is crying over, AND chops real good!

1 point shortsword also gets me plenty of kills and can parry a maul all day long because "But blunts drain more stamina!" is an empty joke. (Oh warhammer, you are so pathetic. And it's pointy side gets the damage bonus vs helmets to boot, yet suffers a severe damage penalty vs even rank 1 armor.)

Start considering Bringing a shortsword or arming sword as "a Perk, but better" unless you are already filling all three weapon slots with something else.

Bardiche? Zweihander? Halberd? I'm still bringing a shortsword or arming sword.

People cry over thrust spam only weapons because it's not a choppy boy. The real action is in weapons that can chop great AND get to thrust.

Like the Estoc. Head pokes and swing decaps real good, people just don't give it credit because it can't one shot kill a peasant or someone wearing ninja pajamas. But you can get away with "spamming thrust" for kills even as half the server is losing it's ♥♥♥♥ over some guy with an inferior short spear.

"Poke, poke, poke, poke morph into swing aaaaand decap. What an idiot... Oh, sure thing server, short spears are cancer. Totally."

These people would soil themselves in real life if the javelins from chivalry were in mordhau, I expect.

Short sword or dagger are my usual side arms. Short sword is the more versatile of the two, but most of the fights where I end up with a dagger, I usually can land the last hit. Most players underestimate the speed of the dagger. Also a decent shield killer, since more shield users can't handle the speed of your attacks.
