It's so hard to walk past your team, everyone has a crazy respect for personal space in Mordhau.
Changing your loadouts retroactively to deal with a threat isn't a bad idea sometimes but most people on horses don't last that long until their killed so then deciding to change to a billhook when I die only to realise the threat is now gone is counterproductive for me.
Besides that level of vigilance is tiring, every time I commit to killing cav, one of two things will happen. The sound will not pick up correctly and the horse is closer than I thought and it's now impossible for me to avoid their couched side or two, teammates will all rush to kill the cav blocking my blows because they all want to be that person to kill the cav.
Oh, and definitely HORSES!
Running Rapier/Short spear with dodge and bloodlust leave only 3 remaining build points (in my case, I run second wind so I don't run out of stamina as fast and lose my weapon), which doesn't allow for any armor that makes any difference against exectioner swords, mauls, etc. I've also been beaten plenty of times by people who do some crazy drag attacks. Playing any form of no armor build requires a considerably higher amount of skill because there's no room for error in these builds. If I make one mistake, I either die or have less than 20 hp. This also means that if I take any sort of falling damage, get hit by any thrown weapon, or hit by any kind of projectile, I am a guaranteed one shot from any two-handed weapon. On the contrary, I have to stab someone 3 times in the head with a rapier to kill them if they have level 2-3 armor, which is the majority of players. They have at a bare minimum two free hits they can take and still be fine, whereas I die in one hit. Rapier fighting also requires more precision (stabbing requires more aim than horizontal cleave attacks), which makes it feel more rewarding.
Also, people claim there's an "epidemic" of this, but out of a 48 man server I only end up seeing about 2-3 at the most each game (including myself). It's because this style of gameplay (especially when you play no shield) is very difficult to work with because of how weak you are health-wise. Also, in a typical game of Frontline, I end up with around 20 kills, whereas skilled helicopters and the like end up with 40+. Why are they not annoying when they get double the kills I get?
For example, being mad at me because I played the light class in Chivalry the same way I play the rapier build class in Mordhau is absurd. It takes a lot more game knowledge than just dragging and spamming M1. I don't take on 2-4 people and survive by being a helicopter and swinging madly, but by dodging and stabbing intelligently at the right time. A lot of my stabs come from enemies making poorly timed swings I can easily step back from and then go in for a stab while they're recovering. If you're dying to a rapier player, you are either playing against a really good rapier player or are just not good. Also, due to the stabbing nature of the weapon, these types of players do far less team damage/killing, so be thankful.
(I loathe short spears as a rapier player. They are basically rapiers with more powerful thrown damage. I've run into my fair share of people running 3 short spears and it infuriates me to no end.)
Sometimes I have to facepalm at the things I see.
This so much. I'd rather be team killed.
These people..right here.
