This game isn't fun anymore
Frontline is nothing but ridiculously one sided matches where one team completely stomps the other. I rarely if ever get close matches. I look on the scoreboard and the top player on the losing team literally has a negative K/D while everyone on the winning team has a 3:1 K/D or better. It's insane how imbalanced matches are. Doesn't help with these hilariously unbalanced maps that favor one side over the other. Not to mention the amount of BS like getting killed by a horse before you can even get out of spawn.

It's clear the focus was 100% on the fighting mechanics and literally 0 on content or game modes. Frontline doesn't service the mechanics at all and is just a clusterf*ck. Playing one sided matches all day where I get maybe 4 kills and die 10 times gets old fast. It's equally as unfun being on the other side. I don't learn anything from these matchups and it's made even worse by your potato servers that constant drop packets and make me whiff parries / attacks I should have landed.

I'm kind of mad at myself that I got caught up in the novelty of this being a first person sword fighting game because the game itself really isn't that good outside of the admittedly well polished fighting mechanics.

I'm not counting on frontline or any of the casual game modes to get an overhaul. With how much talk there is over the ranked 1v1 mode, it's clear the focus is on high level duels and not on casual multiplayer. Whatever, I guess I got my money's worth but I'm still disappointed that the non-duel people are getting the cold shoulder by the devs.

Is this somehow a bad thing? The core of the game you say is splendid. Old school shooters were little more than the core + custom maps.

I feel mostly the same way. Most matches I ever join are one-sided these days and the terrible spawning on some maps makes me abandon all hope of winning. Not to mention even if you win there's no real reward. Horse spawn kill is still a menace and there's not much incentive to keep playing the game after you get most of the items you want.

Still worth the memes & beginning fun for $30.

Common issue in shooters for the past two decades. Players join the winning team and long matches encourage stacking. Chivalry had it too so it's no surprise the tradition continues.

You can make this game fun by experimenting with different loadouts. Thats how I got back into the game

Edit: didnt read the body I only read the title. Didnt know it was about frontlines

I'm starting to give up hope of ever gitting gud... 70 hours and my play is literally no better than when I first started.

I feel like it's a lost cause. Most of the players came from thousands of hours in Chivalry and thousands of hours in the alpha and beta. How is someone new to the genre ever supposed to catch up? I just run into feint / drag gods in every match and they always stack teams so it's not like I ever have them on my team. Feint, drag, morph, accel, doesn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ matter. I can't get through anyone's defense.

Then I watch youtube videos and it's like everyone they're fighting is playing with one hand. I want to get better but it feels so hopeless.

I was new to the genre when I first started too. Honestly duels are not for learning. Frontlines is where you learn how to play. That's where I learned. Just skip duel servers and go to frontlines to git gud

after nearly a month off, the game is the same dumb useless spazzmcrouch crap like before , server doesnt even get half full on 6,5k playing and more than the half is on red pings while devs stated ping is superimportant when it comes to milliseconds, so you cant guess close drags or parries, timewaste , moneywaste, fck the chivalryfanboidevs

I don't know what it is. I practice every combat technique and can use them all in tandem just fine when I fight bots. As soon as I fight real players, it's like I go full dumbass and just make the stupidest mistakes. I don't chamber feint spammers, I don't kick face huggers.

It's like any game sense I've developed goes out the window as soon as it's the real thing. I don't get it.

Plus, it doesn’t help the aforementioned issue of ridiculously stacked teams. There’ll be five guys on the enemy team with like 30 kills and the top player on our team has less than 10. Or a teammate will steal the enemy ballista... and use it to kill his own team.

Frontline is so unbalanced it isn’t funny. Hard to get better when every fight is you vs. 5 superstars and team killing teammates.

My enthusiasm for the game has died down pretty much completely these past couple of weeks. I can totally get behind why this game's popularity is dropping so quickly.

See a stab coming, wait for it to be sure it is not a feint, parry the stab: the stab hit you while its animation is still going toward you (did not hit).

Someone swing, get back out of range, still get hit.

Spawn in frontline, take 2 steps, get hit from 2 horses at the same time and 4 arrows.

Having to fight someone whos body bend like a snake.

4 Teammates hitting you in the back while you are facing 1 enemy.

Close the game and go to something more... sane.

This^

I haven't played for about week now myself. There is just no enjoyable maps or game modes. Visual map design feels soulless too. Its cool that there is character customization but all characters seem to either be generic edgy knights or weird deformed abominations. Almost no communication with community. Sometimes it feels like the devs just don't even know what other devs are doing themselves. Modding tools are probably a century away. Jax only either responds to serious glitch complaints on forums or answers 1 - 2 questions during his stupid streams. Devs refuse to even talk about the progress for the next patch. I know that during alpha new updates sometimes took multiple months to release, with no communication at all.

Sorry for the rant. Its just depressing, you know?

From what the devs say the next patch will have lots of fixes and improvements. They are working towards balancing the maps, new content and more.
Ranked modes are coming soon, but there are also new maps and gamemodes in the works. Lots of content is coming further down the line.
It isn't true that they are focusing on duels only. They are focusing on every aspect of the game. Ιτ must be balanced and fun in all skill tiers and gamemodes.
Mordhau just came out and there is definitely room for improvement. The devs are listening to the community and they are very passionate about their game. We just need to be a bit more patient as they are a very small team and this has an impact on their speed. Give it some time and it will be immensely improved.

Unbalanced matches unfortunately happen. Usually one team is stronger and will dominate, but occasionally there are some close games that keep you on your toes to the end. It's also possible for a team to win by using better tactics, even if it has less skillful players than the enemy team. It would be nice if the devs could do something about team-stacking though.
There is nothing wrong with joining the stronger team if you are a beginner. It helps boosting your morale. You also perform better when you have a good team.
I know it's not fun to be stomped all the time. We've all been there. It is known that Mordhau has a steep learning curve. You need more hours (70 hours are still very few) because there is a lot to learn and lots of different skills to build.
In my opinion Frontline is not ideal for training. It's too chaotic with lots of random stuff happening around you constantly. You need good situational awareness to survive.
Duels are good for learning the mechanics and mindgames, but training for teamfights is also important. Helping your teammates without hitting them, fighting against multiple opponents, stuff like that. TDM is great for that purpose - lower playercounts, smaller maps, more controlled environment. Also Skirmish. It's a bit more hardcore since it has no respawn, but it pushes you to do your best.

I found this great tutorial yesterday. I don't know the guy that made it, but he really knows what he is saying.
I hope it helps a bit, but remember that it takes time to improve and implement new stuff to your playstyle.

You cannot really balance this. Some players are simply bad. Its a very skill focused game. A level 100 will rape any level 20 any day.
I am lv 43 and I barely keep up with these dudes myself just because I dont have the time to play as much. Ofc the random lv 20 will fail aswell.

I agree.
What we need are more open maps, the most terrible decision in this game is to make everyone spawn at the same spot and making bottleneck-maps. (Mount & Blade maps anyone...?)
Result is fighting shoulder to shoulder, feinting is almost useless on most maps since you'll get backstabbed by another one, team damage is through the roof as a result.

Secondly, soldiers move at an incredible pace left and right like there is no gravity. Shooting arrows don't. It seems the arrows are from toy bows instead of longbows/crossbows. Longbows/crossbows were known knight-killing machines... In this game, armor=kevlar

Third, there is no circle of power like horse>archer>pikeman>horse

Fourth, standing still and regain health is a no-go for me..it's called arcade mode
