I was just DDOSed
The users name was [Name Redacted] with the brackets. THats exactly how it looked. What do I do? I reported it with the crash to the devs. I posted on the main forums about it. I've just set up a VPN. What more can I do to make sure little ♥♥♥♥♥ like that get held accountable?

If you could actually prove that it was DDOS, get their Steam ID, and some sort of proof that they actually DDOSed you. Report it to steam, give it to the moderators on Discord, and if you really wanted to push it, report it as a crime since DDOS is illegal everywhere.

But how do I get that info? Thats the problem.

If you didn't get it at the time, you're probably not going to get it at all.

Ya know as dumb and as toxic as they are I doubt you were DDOS'd,I'd say they probably did a glitch or hack that crashed the whole server as it's something I've seen before when playing with friends,in a large lobby like frontline or even Deathmatch it's very hard to find the direct IP you are searching for without knowing the players location,so it's abit of a stretch to think you alone were DDOS'd and not the server itself

I agree with Mytalisis's assessment above. If you want to get Steam ID, just type in Playerlist into the console and it's going to be in the console buffer.

As for figuring out if it was DDOS or the server, you're usually going to have to be prepared in advance, such as by running Wireshark and seeing what's going on at the Router.

It’s hard to prove that they DDOS’d you best you can do is complain it as a crime and get a vpn, multiple reports on the same guy but from different victims will help
It’s also unlikely they DDOS’d you sense that is more network sided you probably just crashed

Many jurisdictions have laws under which denial-of-service attacks are illegal. In the US, denial-of-service attacks may be considered a federal crime under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act with penalties that include years of imprisonment.
So yes... report them to steam, maybe even police(assuming you're in the U.S), since it IS a crime, and a felony at both criminal and civil levels at that.

I never heard of Wireshark but I will certainly check it out. Thank you. Sorry if I was terse with you earlier. I was still a bit upset.

Im not sure you understand how DDOS attacks work. They ping an IP/connection with small packets of data, over and over thousands of times. Thing is, a single computer doing a DDOS wouldnt be enough. When hackers do DDOS attacks they coordinate it with hundreds or sometimes thousands of people.

A single person attempting a DDOS against you wouldnt even effect your connection, even if the guy called on others to do it with him it would most likely just slightly slow your connection.

Im guessing you just assumed it was DDOS because you lost your connection or some such, but I can assure you the likelihood of what your describing happening is incredibly small.

that's where you're wrong kiddo, but in all seriousness,a DDOS attack can happen by a single person with a strong enough internet connection and bot net to hold someone offline for as long as they desire, there are programs out there that allow you to spoof computers and send packets in such mass it can actually cause a router to shut down a port until the attack ends or until the router is restarted and the internal IP address refreshes, this was the most common tactic used by people who played on consoles since other simple programs can be used to directly find every connected IP ,and when you're in game it's as pinging the server IP you're in,again as I stated this is significantly harder on PC as there are many IP protections put in place and things of that nature, making it almost impossible in frontlines lobbies, however if it was a duel server with just him and a few others it probably wasn't tough, but I have with my own eyes seen people DDOS servers in this game so it was probably that, not a personal attack just one on the server to close it and make as many people mad as possible in 1 go

Be extremely mindful of where you use it. It can be considered to be illegal to use if you're using it on anything that's not a network you own/have full control over. We literally caught a guy using it on the public store wi-fi where we work a few years ago, and he's got at least 2 years behind bars for it.

im not a very nasty or aggressive person but i looked at your profile to see "I am in my early 30s and have been gaming since the original NES. I play RPGs, action games, and the occasional shooter." but you dont seem to type like you biographise yourself. you seem like a bit of a software noob for a human at 30 years of age that apparently has a bit of "computer experience"
ive been alive since 2000 and for a fact i know that games like this running on the newer UNREAL ENGINE 4 require somebody with level 400 hacking skill to actually even properly ddos you or even cause harm to your machine somehow. unless you're in a teamspeak or skype connection with them like a call

now listen. this is important: i have come across numerous actual hackers who have whatever name but when i look them up via the INGAME PROFILE HOTLINK by clicking on their name (not looking them up on add friend) they have no profile. steam doesnt have any record of them DESPITE them being clearly in game but it makes no sense why steam doesnt have protection against people who have no game hotlink. its been a problem since about heck i think 2012? i was in a game with an actual aimbotter in css when i was in school and i was ready to report him with a heap of screenshots yet he had no profile. his name was garret and to this day he still doesnt have a profile. i even looked him up on add friend but theres absolutely no info on the hotlink or anything

so yes i do 100% believe that somebody may be using that
https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/5mxqux/hacker_not_having_steam_profile/
related link (reddit) but they are wrong in the sense that some hackers dont even have a steam profile instead of the "this user has not set up their profile". but its a pretty lowly-recorded bug in steam but i fear valve is a tad too scared of releasing that info and has been censoring it (theres only a rare load of reported cases of these hackers)

yea no i dont think somebody REALLY ddosed you i think they just YEETed your game cause you annoyed their obese virgin sweatbeard butts into oblivion and they somehow crashed your game
