Which is utterly ridiculous. 3rd person helps avoid the complete lack of peripheral vision one has in 1st person due to computer screens being flat boxes, as well as helps mitigate the issue of the inability to turn your character's head independently from their body to quickly check your surroundings without compromising your positioning.
All the same, my guess is that it's unlikely we'll be seeing any improvements/variant options to 3rd person as people seem to prefer playing like they're wearing horse blinders
But apparently they made it specifically like that, so 3rd person doesn't get an advantage.
Even removed camera zoom & tweaking options during beta last year.
