Slashing power versus chainmail is a very pointless argument, it was designed to do exactly what the video showed. Thrusting attacks with pointed weapons make short meat of chainmail.
The katana beat the crap out of the longsword in this video...
Unless your opponent is wearing something hard like metal, the katana is going to out perform standard european swords...
If a katana was slashing with another weapon it was weak, and would fail, they trained to avoid attacks entirely, to deliver their blow.
This is why katana can be so sharp, as they are intended to cut through something like flesh.
Long swords are designed to be resilient, so they can block another sword, and still keep on ticking, so not nearly as much tempering is put into them, as a katana.
katana are more brittle, so their edge can be sharp.
in an armored battlefield, the long sword wins.
in a non armored battlefield, the katana wins, as it can cleave through most non metal materials, atleast deeply enough to cause massive damage.
Katana and longswords each have their own specialized job, and they are very good at them.
But to try to say a katana is worse at doing its job than a longsword? you would need to move a serious goal post lmao.
easiest way for a longsword to beat a katana, is to simply clash with it. as the high temper will likely break the katana, allowing you to defeat an opponent with a broken weapon.
