Do Dedicated servers even work?

Ive been trying to set up a dedicated server for about 2 weeks now. Just to play with my friends privately because its one of the main reasons i bought this game. However i can set it up so i can join it from the same pc no problem but i cant get any of my friends to join it, ive tried setting it up about 4 different ways (various methods ive seen online, including the "official one")and ive done all of the necessary things but still im the only one who can join my server and it only shows up in LAN(ive seen other people with this problem too). so anyone got any ideas cause right now it just seems like im being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ into renting a server which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if that is the case.

TL;DR Am i being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ into buying a server and why the ♥♥♥♥ cant i host a server even when i follow all the steps correctly?

If it only shows up on LAN, it's probably to do with your router/modem or even your pc's firewall blocking certain traffic. Try forwarding the relevant ports - i.e. the port that the server uses when you set it up.

Yeah ive forwarded the ports and allowed both the base game and the server full access through my firewall but still the sever only shows up in LAN, i can connect using my loopback address though, so i was also thinking its like it cant get through my router to the internet but i have no idea why it cant.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ some of the different ways ive tried and all of them had the same issue where i can see it on lan but not on internet and other people cant connect through open "my ip"

You could try creating a virtual LAN network (Hamachi or something) to see if friends can connect then. Or just have another physical computer/laptop on the actual LAN connect.

Most likely, it has to do with something blocking your connection.

Yeah i agree with that, im going through my router right now to see if i can find anything that would potentially block it but so far i dont see anything, im going to grab a friend and do some testing now. Thanks for the help and i'll keep this post updated if i find anything. Any other suggestions would be appreciated if anyone had any ideas.

I don't know your set-up, but if it's modem -> router -> pc, it could also be the modem. Maybe it has some settings you should change.

Ive looked through the settings and from what ive seen nothing there should be blocking access. ive got straight router to pc and it has firewall access and ports forwarded, i did just read that some people it didnt work when they set it up but it did like 2 days later so i have no idea lol but im'a keep trying to fix it.

Make sure ALL of the required ports that you've set are open and forwarded to the correct machine on your network.

If you are not sure what ports you are using, you should set them as the launch parameters of the server. You can set these numbers to be anything not currently in use by another app. If you are using the tool via Steam, you'll need to go into the properties and set all the ports as launch parameters, should look like the following

FFA_Contraband -log -Port=7777 -RconPort=7778 -QueryPort=27016 -Beaconport=15000

With each of those ports open and forwarded, though RconPort is not as important.

If all of those ports are open and forwarded correctly, you should see the server appear on the server browser. Be sure to change the Game.ini file for the server, located in the Mordhau\Saved\Config\WindowsServer folder of where the server tool is installed (you can browse to the folder through Properties > Local Files.
