Unable to connect to the backend? Try this

This issue is caused by an incompatibility between the current version of Unreal engine and some of the newest CPUs. Luckily there is a possible solution.

Here’s the step-by-step process:

1. Press Win + E or open File Explorer, right-click on “This PC,” and choose “Properties.

2. Click on “Advanced System Settings.”

3. Under the Advanced tab, choose “Environment Variables.”

4. Under “System variables,” click on “New.”

5. In the “Variable name” box, type this: OPENSSL_ia32cap

6. In the “Variable value” box, type this: ~0x200000200000000

7. Then click on “OK.”

8. Confirm the addition of the variable to the “System variables” list and choose “OK.”

This worked for me. The weird part is that everyone has the same issue but not everyone has the same fix. Just keep trying different things and hopefully one of them work. Very stupid issue. Thanks though

It's because it is a very generic error message that shows whenever it can't establish a network connection to the backend servers.

The reasons that connection might fail are vast and varied, could be caused by an issue on your network, your internet being down, could be caused by a widespread server issue, could be just routing congestion, and every one of those will have a different "fix".

It worked the first time but when you later close the game and reopen it, this feature will not work, sad.

Ye nothing worked for me. Definitely on Devs/Steams teams to solve this one. The fluke is to actually get in.

Had this same issue.

It was my ISP, had to call customer service and they fixed the issue.
Apparently it was a bad network end-point or some nonsense.

try connecting to the game with VPN, get a free one if you dont have money... "psiphon3" works for me.
