Blade & Sorcery

At a loss with performance on my PC. Does this seem right?
Specs:

AMD Ryzen 5600x
RTX 2080TI
32GB RAM
Samsung SSD
Windows 11

Quest 2 + Airlink. I have tried link cable, there is no difference. Quest is at 90Hz, I've tried with Oculus VR mode, Steam VR mode, Steam Link through Oculus. ASW is turned off, Steam VR resolution isn't doubled, quest resolution is at its recommended for 90hz. I've exhausted what I could possibly exhaust trying to solve this.

I have never owned this game before 1.0, so it was as clean as an install I could get. But since I bought it, I've had nothing but performance aches. I uninstalled for a few months, but tried again today. I clean installed it again. LocalLow, Documents, Steam files, my save. No mods, ever, so far as I haven't got the base game to run smoothly.

In the menu even, the game tells me there are dropped frames. No matter how low I go in the settings, there are dropped frames. Render scale 0.5x, physics lowest, max bodies and objects 1, I will have dropped frames at minimum in the yellow 1-2. Anything higher, it will climb from 3-4 to 6-8 dropped frames.

I can't imagine with my specs, this is right? At first I thought this was just a bug, that the dropped frames indicated may not be working correctly, but I do come across issues in game. It is playable, and I've had some fun, but not nearly enough as I'd hoped on specs like this.

As I've said, I've lowered settings, which I'm fine with doing because I understand the game is intensive, but I've seen people on lower end rigs than mine, have dropped frames in the green, showing 0 dropped frames with higher settings than my rig is seemingly able to handle. I don't understand what is wrong, but something to me feels like this should not be taking this much of a toll on my frames in the menu. The game feels smooth, the FPS isn't low, but I don't know why I can't ever get dropped frames to be at a stable 0 even in the menu when it's the least possible intensive the game can be. This makes me also believe that as it progresses in intensity, I'm not getting the expected performance I should be getting, because the baseline performance in the menu is poor.

I was hopeful at the beginning, but I am just ending up increasingly disappointed I bought it expecting performance to not be this poor for my specs. To me, this doesn't seem right and I really hope someone has insight into something I haven't tried in order to resolve this. I've had no issues with any other games.

since you're on win11, have you disabled HAGS?
go to "Settings > system > display > Graphics > Default graphics settings" and disable Hardware Accelerated GPU scheduling

I was hopeful, so I disabled and restarted, unfortunately still the same issue. Here's screenshots:

It's blurry on some of them because of the render scale, but you can see there that, despite being on the lowest of the lowest settings, something seems to be off in GPU frames/dropped frames.

Edit: It's not on the lowest of the low there on the screenshots, I reduced shadows to 5m, which didn't change anything but I think you get my point. Just checked my drivers install, and also reset my video settings in nVidia.

Please provide a log file, you can upload it to pastebin https://pastebin.com/
The player.log(or just "player" or "player-prev") file can be found here:

hmm, nothing weird in there either...

How strange.. I'm honestly kinda at a loss...

I'll pass this over to some other folks who may know a bit more!
Is it lagging JUST in headset? or is it also lagging on your monitor as well?

Thanks, I appreciate it. Hopefully someone can get to the bottom of it. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Just seems to be in the headset, seemed smooth on the monitor. Might have to check that more with someone else playing to be sure about that.

hmm, if its JUST laggy on headset, it may.. be an issue with the connection type, even though you mention you've tried a few different options (airlink, link, SteamLink)...
can you maybe give ALVR or Virtual Desktop a try?
VD is paid, $20, but ALVR is free and open source.
Another important thing, is router position/type of router to you!

Are you on a 6g router? if so, where is it in terms of location to your headset?

It's provided by my ISP, it's a gigabit connection, not sure if it's 6G, think it's 5G? Couildn't be any closer to my headset really, in my room, on a dresser very close proximity.

In the process of trying ALVR, and it's actually worse than Airlink/Cable. Same settings and instead of 1 dropped frame in yellow, it's 2 dropped frames in the red. It also looks blurrier in general and desaturated.

I'm not too hopeful for Virtual Desktop, but if it's still happening after a few more attempts to fix and there seems to be nothing else, I might bite the bullet and try it for two hours and if it doesn't work, get a refund and hope someone can resolve it someday. It could be the tiniest thing I'm overlooking after all this time trying bigger fixes.

I can check the game later again today, but has there been other possibilities that you (or others that might have seen this) could think of? My last ditch is Virtual Desktop, but I'm not too convinced on spending money on it just for one game, really unless I'm straight up out of every single possible option available.

Looking at this video, I can see someone is running an older version of the game (I assume there's even been performance enhancements since then) on higher settings than I can, with no dropped frames and a very good last frame time at 7ms. Something must be wrong with my config or settings at that stage surely, but I seem to only have issues in this game, at least significantly noticeable ones compared to other VR games.

I truly have no idea, my game will hit 90HZ fine, but anytime I seem to do anything, frames will jump all over the place. Opening my spell menus, just having another character fighting me, or my inventory it really seems to take a toll on my performance.

I had the same issues but for me what worked was to plug in ethernet to my pc without a cable to the headset.

That's already how I'm playing unfortunately. I've tried a thing called OpenVR_FSR which seemed to help the feeling, but maybe it's a placebo. Still getting dropped frames and such like before and it still lags unlike how I see other players with lower specs playing smoother.
