Accidentally left crystal behind

Defeated the first boss, selected my crystal I wanted from the altar thing. It took forever, and there was a huge light show that lagged me quite a bit (My computer isn't the best.) So I thought "Okay, that's cool and all, guess I'll leave and get the crystal back home?" Went towards the pillar of light, then looked back and saw my crystal sitting in the altar. Tried to run, but I was locked into the light teleportation animation. Teleported me back to the big crystal door on the home island. Checked my inventory, no new crystal there.
Have I just completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ myself by not grabbing that crystal? I have no idea if I can get back to that exact same island, back to that altar, and retrieve the crystal. Do I need to start a new save game because I forgot a crystal due to confusing big flashy event that I had no basis of reference on? Can you retrieve crystal later somehow?
(If curious why I'm asking it so many times in different ways, it's to make it easier for others to look this up if they have a similar issue.)

Uhhhhh i was told you shouldn't.. be able to teleport.. without it 😓

a QA person to me to tell you to check the spawn book on the dresser at home, and see if its there
