Problems with the 1.0 update
Ok so this game is nearly perfect now and I hope these practices, mechanics, and QOL things make their way into being the default for all similar games. However, there are a couple things that are kind of oddly glaring? The NPC behavior when idle is a staggeringly low quality compared to the standard set for everything else and it supremely damages immersion. Non-combat animations and AI are much much worse than combat animations and AI, and now that they're such a massive part of the game and seen constantly by the average player, they definitely need some work. The very first enemy in the tutorial doesn't even see you when he's staring right at you, and it's not something I can pin on mods because I just uninstalled all of them. Also, the "eye adjustment" effect is really bad and annoying, way too strong, and way too fast to be realistic anyway. When you walk from a dark room to a bright room, the bright room instantly looks darker than the dark room was, and when you open your book it flashbangs you and you can't see anything else, and this update turned off the ability for the player to adjust post processing settings like bloom, etc for some reason, so it's just impossible to turn off? Heavier enemies in this update are *amazing* and I'm so glad they were included, but is there still a chance for more options for realism or AI customization later on? At this stage, mods that change AI settings are required for the game to be challenging at all (or even slightly believable/realistic even considering it's a fantasy world), given that enemies attack slowly, one at a time, every five or so seconds, and the player even without a crystal is a sledgehammer swinging muscle god who can jump eight feet and use telekinesis, which kind of diminishes the whole "doesn't have a crystal" crystal hunt start since there is, lore wise, no way to get these powers without a crystal that I am aware of. I think yeah, by default the player should start with these things, but at the very least just for the lore sanctity could there be a way not to given there's already an option to start "without powers?" I think, essentially, the difficulty menu needs a lot more options for there to be a potential challenge, and I'm not sure why basic settings that are essentially mandatory for any challenge or fun are locked behind mods like this, given that they are a single digit tweak in a json file somewhere. If this sounds overly critical, it's because I've held off on criticism for these things given the game was in early access and subject to change. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic update with all the content it will ever need, but it also has enough missing little things like this that it doesn't feel as much like a full release as it does a massive version 0.9 content update with some stuff to clean up around the edges. I wouldn't be concerned at all if it didn't seem like there's a possibility these things don't change, but it looks like with focus on the next game this stuff might slip through the cracks or be left to modders? If this were U13, I'd only be thinking "This is literally the best update ever," but if this is like totally it, my thoughts trend towards some of the remaining glaring flaws in systems. So conclusion is basically that this is amazing work and unheard of quality for just one update, but will future patches be enough to solve or address these significant issues, or will it just be things like fixes? I want the game to get to a place where combat is challenging and believable without mods

To clarify, it would take way way way more words to write all the things I love about the update, it's just that that isn't really helpful at all and everyone else is already doing that anyway, and the people I've seen criticize the update just say they don't like it and don't elaborate

alright, I'm making a true crystal-less json edit, most of these booleans don't do what they're supposed to so this'll be rough
