I don't think I would mind it if I didn't feel like it was the only winning strategy, armor was a good addition but the gameplay suffered for it, there are simply fewer options for engagement and that is really too bad.
I guess that´s what armour does, making it harder to perform an efficient attack. You could as well say "too bad that i die from getting hit by a sword".
The way to kill a knight in full armour (what i heard and read at least, actually never fought a knight irl) was to go for the weak spots like face/visor slot or armpit, which was hard as the knights knew about these weak spots and tried to not let you go for them. Or you could get them to the ground which made it much easier to exploit weak spots. Or you could use brutal force like maces and axes do.
This is pretty much the options the game provides. So i say "well done".
In the arenas you can choose all unarmoured waves, if you are more into "John Wick creative ways to remove body parts from unwilling individuals" play style. Maybe the option should be activated for dungeons, too.
