U7 vs U8
I bought Blade and Sorcery when U8 was already out, I tried U7 today, and gotta say U7 is order of magnitude better.

The performance is vastly superior, there are no hiccups. Enemies are actually smarter, more aggressive, and try to dodge incoming blows (the leap they do is quite unrealistic, but it is a good challenge). What's more, there are more appearance variations, which makes things interesting (as you aren't killing the same guy over and over), and they also vary in height, which adds more fun.

Compared to that U8 looks a bit prettier, but most enemies look the same, there are fewer different armors (I like black leathers from U7 more than that gladiator kind of thing from U8), opponents are dumber, and there are miltiple hiccups on spawn and on death. I actually can do "sliding thrust" with a spear in U7, while in U8 it doesn't exactly work.

The only negatives in U7 are: enemies are much easier to trip, and their attacks are theatrical, which means there's a huge opening which makes them vulnerable to daggers.

OVerall, I think it would be nice if U7 was kept available as something like "Blade and SOrcery classic", becaus I like everything about U7 more than U8. It feels U8 is heading into directo of making everything prettier, which... doesn't seem to be what this game was about.

I so agree with this, U8 just feels weird, and is less fun.

Because U7 is not available as a separate title, currently it is not possible to have U7 and U8 installed in parallel. They interfere with each other.

Honestly U7 is where they hit their peak with this game. U8 was nothing but trouble. U8.3 fixed a few things but not enough. There is something really wrong when your game goes from being playable for everyone, to being unplayable for a lot. Even people with high end computers had problems and that shouldn't be a thing. The main issue is them switching engines. Also don't forget we're still considered 'early access' so we're basically doing beta testing for these guys.

Hold out a little longer, fellas! 8.4 is just around the corner and is a complete reworking of the character spawn system that has been plaguing U8. How this all came about was, B&S was intended to be a small little wave simulator game that blew up in popularity, and the boost in popularity meant it could reach for additional things thanks to the fan support. So suddenly there were now things that were achievable that were prior locked off, but it also meant the infrastructure for the game was not there, hence the need to rejigger everything mid development. Think about it like you had a robotic assembly machine that makes small cars. And your little company really took off and people loved the small cars but wanted you to now start making limousines. That is okay, but you need to retool the machine to now make bigger cars because the current one just cant handle that.

So for context, here are a few examples of things that were never planned for B&S but either are now in the game or planned because of the fans who suffered and supported through Early Access: Climbing, dismemberment, blood decals, grabbing, draw cuts, merging magic, custom assets, knuckles and tracking support, armour, (and planned ->) dungeons (huge additional), campaign mode, stealth, skill trees, lore, purchasing/selling items.

So this is honestly the Early Access dream! A small game that becomes a big game thanks to fans fueling it. So hang tight just a little longer for that 8.4 performance fix!

The question is how long is "a little longer".

Honestly, though, at this point I'm very tempted to start making my own game, given that I know what I want and given lack of a VR game that implements what I want exactly.

Yes, the eternal question. I know it's annoying, man. If I had an exact answer I swear to you I would be singing it from the rooftops, lol, but the nature of these things are you just can't be specific and I wouldn't like to drop a date and then the team miss that deadline and everyone feels bad. So the best that can be done is a ballpark like 'soon'. I know that sucks.

And you should make a game, man! If you can do it, why not. Make the game you always wanted to see. We could use more games in the VR space!

Yeah, I know how those things go. I'll be waiting for the next update.

You switch this by going to "betas" tab of your game and selecting "none". This will update the game to the latest version.
