Purchase question - Standalone or Steam version
I just got a VR Headset, so this is gonna be a dumb question...

I understand that if I buy the game through Steam and play connected to PC then it will run better. But if I buy through Steam, can I also play on the headset in "Standalone" mode without my PC being on, for example if i went to a friends house? With the same Steam version as standalone too.

you buy it through steam and you'll always need your pc on to play it. I'm assuming quest. They're different stores. Steam version will also probably work better and more mods will support it.

If you have the requirements for PCVR then get the game on Steam, it's a lot better than the Meta Store version. More mods, better graphics, etc.

If you're certain to go around with your headset to people homes to play, have to be sure you won't regret that purchase as the computer version isn't limited to the hardware of the headset. Already own both at the moment. Still prefer the computer version as it's the same as if you bought it on the meta store, you'll get a refund if you don't enjoy your experience on both platforms.
steam is probably best sense it has the huge modding community, but if you cant get your headset connected to steam then you really only have one option

I bought both. Both allow mods, but the standalone version allows for more potential in playing space as you won't be tied to your pc.

Buy it on steam and also buy virtual desktop
There is just nothing that compares to virtual desktop, it's a must have for pcvr

Nomad (aka standalone) sucks, source: I bought nomad and now steam version, you´ll be missing out on too much and performance is unstable even on quest 3, if your pc can run this, go for it

Virtual desktop amazingly enough can stream with no latency from pretty much anywhere, somehow, it's truly witchcraft to me

You'll also get better battery life and enough spare power on your headset to record without losing on performance
