how to upgrade magic

if I choose a start without powers do I get them later?? idk if I haven't played enough or does this starting option block the powers for the entire game?

No, you can get any skill at any point in the game, youre not locked out of any, unless you dont choose those trees.
Youll need to play the game more for more magic/skills

some outposts give you a map as a final reward, every 2 maps you get you unlock a special dungeon, at the end of that special dungeon you get a magic crystal. You put that magic crystal on the altar at your home and voilà, you unlock magic.

As for "Upgrading" Your magic skills, there's that spinny thing in your house that you put your crystals into (Should be on a desk nearby) and that allows you to put minor crystals in to upgrade your powers
