New to this and terrible experience.

rtx3070, i7, 16gb, quest2 with virtual desktop.
Finally got Half life Alyx running beautifully, but this game is a 3fps lag fest.
I have a clean install with no mods and its terrible. Is there a secret button that I need to press?
Any help appreciated.
Or should I just buy Quest2 version?

Why are you using Virtual Desktop?

I just launch through Steam VR and have no issues.

Is the game asking you which version you want to launch, SteamVR or Oculus? If you have a Quest headset, that might be causing issues. I know my hardware is nowhere near that powerful, but it's way smoother than 3 FPS. Even at default settings, you should be getting more than that. B&S is usually more CPU heavy than GPU heavy, just as an FYI.

I have a Quest 2, using a basic wired link connection. When I launch the game, I pick Oculus mode. Launching in SteamVR mode leads to noticeably worse performance. I am wondering if Virtual Desktop messes with the setup at all, and which mode would be better if both are available.

I would suggest at least trying it in wired link mode, just to start troubleshooting and figure out if it's the game freaking out, or an error being introduced somewhere along the line in pushing it to VD.

i also have a 3070 and the game runs just fine. in fact, it even ran better than other vr games on my old rx470 before upgrading.

I have a 1660super and it runs fine, very little lag issues are you using steam VR?

Cheers for suggestions guys, really appreciate it. I have a dedicated vr play area which is why I play wireless. If I used a cable, I'd have very restricted movement due to pc location. I use VD because purely because its convenient and all I know. It's mostly very succesful with other vr games. I launch game from within VD and no option appears to run Steam or occulus mode.

in the virtual desktop games tab (when you press the menu button on the left controller) games automatically use oculus mode, if available.

Works fine on quest 2 with airlink . Open the oculus debug tool and set FOV Tangent Multiplier too 0.85:0.85 , that will half the pixels rendered by not rendering the screen area you can't see , worth doing in all games .

Bro, all you need to do is launch Steam VR without VD running, then click on Blade and Sorcery. VD is more than likely what is causing the issue. I use a Quest 2 on wireless mode also, mostly because a wired connection for me just doesn't work.

Quest 2 is great, OP just doesn't know how to launch the game without running bloatware in the background dragging his PC down.

Bro, all you need to do is launch Steam VR without VD running, then click on Blade and Sorcery. VD is more than likely what is causing the issue. I use a Quest 2 on wireless mode also, mostly because a wired connection for me just doesn't work.

oculus' air link takes more performance than virtual desktop, in most cases VD is the superior way to play wireless.
