Blade & Sorcery

Blade & Sorcery

Similar games?
I really really love the moddability and the feel of the melee combat in BnS but the lack of progression and variety kinda bores me after like an hour of play. Are there any other physics based sword fighting games that are actually good?
All games i have looked up have awful reviews and always state that BnS is just superior in every way.

I thought hellsplit exceeded my expectations going in compared to some of the of reviews I read beforehand. It has progression and some strategy when fighting different enemies in the same round.

Hellsplit Arena is basically this but with actual content, where as this game is permanently stuck in limbo. If I could go back in time I would have bought Hellsplit twice instead of buying this game. The downside to Hellsplit is that you have to fight on the same map a bunch of times before you progress to a new one which can get repetitive.
hellsplit arenas weapon and gear have a disgusting huge invisible hitbox

I've bought and tried Hellsplit Arena and sadly it's really not scratching that itch and it really feels weird to play. Thanks for the suggestions tho!
try SUPERHOT VR

I was writing a response to a similar post on Reddit! I'll paste it here too -

Here is a list of all the stuff I know that often gets compared to B&S, though nothing is exactly the same because the Blade & Sorcery physics framework is unique. B&S is like a physics sandbox first, that then uses those physics to do combat and avoid the conundrum of weightless weapons and 'wiggle swording' in VR. Most other games have their own attempts to address this, but most are not physics simulations.

Boneworks - No magic but the closest thing to B&S in terms of physics. Puzzle game, also has a campaign unlockable sandbox. Modern weapons but there is also melee.

Tales of Glory - heavily inspired by Mount & Blade, with many enemies in a battle. Has weighted weapons as the solution to wiggle-swording but collisions are not as fine as B&S, so you get things like loose hitbox detection, etc. (likely limited because there are more enemy on screen).

Hellsplit - Really great graphics in this game. Has some physics simulation but much lighter than B&S, and much of the environment is not interactive. The combat system in this feels a bit floaty if you are more used to B&S, and I found it somewhere a bit between floating weightless weapons and weighted weapons, so I always recommend it to people who hate B&S' weapon weight system as an alternative to try. Has a campaign, but it's really a series of arena waves.

Legendary Tales - Not out yet but looks nice! It is a dungeon crawler. It has collision physics but not a physics simulation because you use weightless weapons without a body.

Gorn - Arena fighter that I'm sure needs no introduction. Their solution to weighted weapons was to deliberately amp it up and draw attention to it by making the weapons rubbery.

Gladius - Gladiator arena game. Last time I played it was introducing collisions but I found the hitboxes were still very loose and everything felt quite weightless. It was a long time ago though.

Swordsman - I haven't played this one but I heard different things about the combat. The trailer suggests there is physics combat but I read people complain that there is no collision physics for weapons, so I'm not sure how it works exactly.

Vengeful Rites - This is not super similar to B&S but it's a sword and sorcery adventure game, but the graphics are cartoony. Has no physics but uses it's own parry system to get around wiggle-sword fighting.

Asgard's Wrath - Highly polished adventure game and has no physics but like Vengeful Rites it uses a parry system to avoid wiggle swording. No direct magic combat but overall is a high fantasy game with magical elements.

Swords of Gurrah - A pvp multiplayer melee game, but sci-fi and no magic. No physics but has it's own wiggle-sword solution where collisions de-activate weapons temporarily.

Excellent of the Baron to provide a list of similar games. Heard of them all apart from gladius and legendary tales, but honestly, neither looked as polished as B&S.

Battle Talent is similar but of course unique and different too. There's quite a bit of content for a free demo at the moment but it's getting updated to its full version with time.

It's has devil may cry inspirations though being that you have weapons with special skills on them and you can do aerial combos (launching an enemy, jumping up after them, attacking them in the air and actually staying in the air with each hit). The skills need to be bought though. They recently added modding to it as well.

Honestly you should play Boneworks anyway if you haven't, it really shows just how much potential VR games can really have
