I would be astonished if they did some open living world, with fleshed out NPC's, story, quests.... all that good stuff.
Current impression is the only direction they can take it is a hack and slash beat em up.
If they did it,... I can only imagine the popularity of VR exploding.
Just to feel you get some progression.
OP. There is plans for a story mode; we do not know anymore than that. Given that the game itself is quite taxing on computers, an open world is highly unlikely. If I had to guess it's probably going to be a series of levels, (think Boneworks) which you have to traverse.
One can dream though. A fluid open world B&S would be amazing. But as you say.. Highly unlikely unless they somehow severely decrease system demands.
I have seen open world VR games, but they lack the things that make B&S so great.
For example, Skyrim VR is pretty awesome. Throw in some mods and it looks beautiful.
Try to fight melee and you're severely disappointed. I only go for bow/magic in Skyrim VR.
Does that game hold up even today?
I've had it in my library for.. Forever but haven't gotten around to actually try it xD
But yeah, i suppose a dungeon crawl would be possible for this game. Maybe even Skyrim-open.. But NPCs&Monsters would have to be cut down in amount. Seems like the most limiting factor in B&S are the amount of moving entities.
I haven't played it in years myself, last time I played it was long after it's initial release and the graphics weren't as impressive but the action and physics were still fun. I recall it had some hilariously bad voice acting, one major character sounded just like Marc M from the old Sick Animation website, if anyone recalls that.
Gameplay wise, it's actually a quite a bit like if Blade & Sorcery was a standard FPS dungeon crawler, haha
