is the short sword the worst weapon in the game ?
been practising with it for a week or too now and out of all the weapons i have used it seems to worse than everything else can't even take limbs of dead people with it even with the advise i have been given even stabbing people rarely works it just slides up to a random point doesn't matter if i follow through or not (which i do with almost all attacks before anyone says that) i know what im supposed to do but it just won't work i have a friend who plays this and i do everything like he does and it works for him every time even with all the advise i still have no idea what i can do differently. and i know someone is going to say it so i'll just say now i don't want to install a mod to make it easier because im never going to improve that way. sorry for the rant just love this game and wanna improve

It's cause stabs and drag cutting are pretty wonky in the game right now, so straight chopping weapons like the axe, dane axe, and bardiche are the onyl weapons in the game that can do consistent damage.

The short sword is one of my favorite weapons right now, but I mainly use it like a rapier that can slash as a backup. I rarely get dismemberment with it though, but that could be the angles and force I use.

If you want easier dismemberment, I think the longsword works well, especially two-handing it.

Shortsword can dismember somewhat reliably, but it's best at slicing throats or quickly disarming enemies with fast hits to their primary hand. It has less damage when chopping or stabbing compared to weapons better at those things, but I'd like to see you quickly disarm a group of people with a dane axe, or slit someone's throat with a spear.

I'm enjoying the short sword with a buckler a lot. Longswords too unwieldy 1 handed and the rapier isn't good at slashing (though stabbing is just top tier with it as expected). Haven't messed with the antique sword or dagger yet.

Once you learn those two handed weapons, nothing got ♥♥♥♥ on the Claymore or Bardiche.. But yeah, as my skill has gone up, I definately find 2 handed weapons far stronger than say a short sword & shield combo. I might kill 75 enemies before falling on endless with a short sword but at least a hundred with a Claymore - many through glorious dismemberment.

Just choose a loadout to practice with, play on Endless and record your kill count at the end of each session to figure out what works best for you.

I managed to get 121 on Endless the other day with the combo i mentioned previously, feels amazing getting dismemberments, how do you get used to the 2h weapons? I can't for the life of me properly hold or use one as my rift s controllers don't do those types of weapons justice.

Use modded weapons. The hitboxes and damage are often really fine tuned. I downloaded the Katana MegaPack from Nexus and it's some of my favorite weapons for removing limbs, bit really anything by Siilk.
