Owners of game..How realistic is the combat?
So would like to know from those who own the game how realistic a melee combat game will we get in this. I have been trained in real sword fighting and archery as well as martial arts and would love to find something very realistic like say thrill of the fight was in comparing to real boxing tactics and movement. Will I be wowed by the realism in this one?

I would like as realistic a simulation of combat as possible ..is this it?

But it's not a HEMA simulator. This is a game made for gamers and modders. Of course swordsmen can get a ton of enjoyment out of the game, since they have a passion for this type of combat. And honestly, all you need to know is, I don't care who or what you are, this game is worth it. If the game was removed from my library and I had to spend 60 euros, three times the actual price, to get it back, I'd do it.

It's the most realistic medieval combat I've ever seen in any video game, VR or otherwise. Don't expect your enemies to stick to HEMA though, there will be spinning and jumping attacks, as well as more realistic "pretty well-animated cuts" (- Skallagrim btw, he's got a couple of videos playing this game. If you don't know, he covers tons of medieval stuff, weapons testing and reviews, realism analysis, sparring, good stuff.)
You can just imagine the people you're fighting (which are bandits, mercenaries and cultists) haven't had proper training / have adapted to an unorthodox fighting style.

As for replayability, it varies, but I'd imagine someone like you would be playing this game, like, TOO much. I like to compare it to TF2, where I've had over 1.800 hours of gameplay. The two main things with TF2 are that it was really easy to get into and the amount of stuff you could do with loadouts and everything was really varied and FUN.
Blade and Sorcery is also quite easy to get into. There's character customisation, where you're 2 presses away from being in the game world (they're probably going to allow you to skip this by defaulting to a character at some point), from where you can just walk up to the map, select where you wanna go and get into it. From there, you arm yourself (or use weapons equipped at home), walk up to the book and select your wave.
The weapon variety is also quite comparable to TF2's in a certain way. This is because there's no limits. I found myself picking up two bucklers or even two rounded shields and just trying to bash a hard wave to death. :p Needless to say, I've been sitting on top of knocked down people screaming at them to die, while being chased by a horde of angry, beat up bandits. Fun times.
Also, tried getting only kills by throwing people into wells, punching people, grabbing knocked down people and flailing them around, which is surprisingly effective...
There's daggers, sabers, swords, longswords, rapiers (more like smallswords), claymores, spears, dane axes, bardiches, hatchets, dual bladed staves, bows, arrows, quivers (yes, you can beat people to death by dual wielding quivers), rounded shields, kite shields, bucklers, fists, grappling, telekinetic powers and with the U6 update coming today, mauls, new claymores, improved dual bladed staves and even Assassin's Creed style push blades under the wrist. Might've even forgotten something.
Honestly, the possibilities are endless.

Speaking of endless, you've been misinformed on the selection of waves.
There's Very easy, easy, medium and hard (wave I-III for all), very hard (wave I, II), endless, endless melee, warzone I-III with a bunch of different factions, including friends, enemy vs friends, enemy vs enemy, free for all, 1v1: classic, endless, group I-III. Seems to also depend on your selected map. Also there's differences between the enemies in factions. For one, mercenaries don't have mages.

On top of the generous MOUNTAIN of combat content, there's also climbing. Climbing 2.0 is coming out today and I think I have the world record for climbing the bridge in the Canyon up until this point. I can tell you it's a fun activity. Very frustrating skill so far, basically Getting Over It in VR and it's amazing. Can definitely put some extra hours into your total playtime.

Wow, this has become an extensive review. I hope it helps you out.
Like I say, it's worth it. Get it. Try it out for yourself and if you really don't like it, refund it, but that's highly unlikely.

Its likely not within your expectations due to your training, but i wouldn't say its "unrealistic", likely if you're thinking "i hope this works" it'll work. Especially when update 6 drops.
And this game is one of the most realistic medieval melee fighting games out there ATM, but mostly the combat in this game is for having fun, not competing.

Thanks for your answer. Is there more than three waves now that you could play on hard difficulty .how much replay value can you get ..I am looking towards the game for getting exercise mostly, was intrigued by how much movement it had in it.

theres just the 3 waves on 3 difficulties, then there are the endless battles, and the team battles with ally AI.

You wont have realistic sword battles, you can use realistic sword techniques but there is currently a limit to how realistic VR can get. This is however the most realistic sword fighting game for VR with mod support from the devs. I recommend getting it, I have a lot of fun just hoping on and off. With mod support and the current roadmap the future of this game looks really good.

One more thing to note on there are harder wave difficulties, and a mod that increases AI difficulty.

I'm not trained by any means so I can't comment on the realistic aspect. I'd just add that the combat is fun, and this is a game so that's what important. To expand upon this, the AI reacts to where your weapon is, they try to parry, block, guard, and do a pretty ok job of it.

Do they do realistic maneuvers? Probably not. Will this train you to be a fantastic swordsman? I doubt it.

Is it fun? Yes. Does it "feel" realistic? To me, Yes. But I can't gaurantee it will satisfy you if you're looking for very realistic combat maneuvers and what not. It is a game meant to be fun.

I'd definitely say give it a try though.

Thanks for the in depth breakdown! Says it all really! It will never be realistic like real life (impossible with current tech) but I would say is the most realistic fighting melee game of all the games available right now.

Baron do we plan on seeing harder difficulties later added to the game?

I want realistic swordfight in VR against AI too and many write that this is the most realistic swordfight experience available in VR, but I‘m not sure if the game really follows this realistic path.

I just watched the latest Steam trailer for the upcoming U8 update and get the impression that it goes more the fantasy path:

Magic Powers, flaming balls shooting from the hands, telekinesis, but even a normal strike with the sword lets the enemy fly many meters through the air as if he’s a rubber doll...

What’s your opinion?

in the trailer the enemy is flying when he hits him with the sword because he's using a gravity spell.

the game is called blade and sorcery, and it has been pretty light on the sorcery.

the trailer is full of mostly magic because this update focuses on expanding the magic.

you don't have to use any magic at all if you don't want to.

this is definitely the most realistic sword fighting experience available in any game.

Thanks for your answer!

I have two further questions:

Is it possible (and how) to fight always against ONE enemy only. I don’t want to fight multiple enemies at the same time, because I don’t have much playspace and it’s difficult not to destroy something when I have to hectically turn around and fight enemies from all sides.

And second question: is real snap turn possible? I always get some kind of motion while turning (which makes me motionsick). Real snapturn is (instead of smooth turning) when the picture switches to another angle of view at once without any motion...

Yes to both. :)
You can choose whatever combination of enemies you want, the difficulty of the fight, and what kind of weapon set they will use by default. Also, realturn snap is on by default.

considering I really never have stabbed a person, I would say it's pretty realistic (for VR standards)
oisin Jun 1, 2020 @ 2:23pm
It's more realistic than anything else out there but still way off the mark because presumably the creator has nether sparred with weapons or understands weapon sparring. It probably is possible to create a realistic weapons simulator that would be somewhat useful for practice but it would require a good deal of knowledge and financial resources that this game does not have access to. All that said, there's a mod that allows you to fight against an endless supply of nothing but swordsmen in single combat only which avoids a lot of the frustrations that come with the vanilla game
