Dishonourable kills include backstabbing, killing unarmed enemies, killing enemies on the floor, killing enemies who are fleeing, repeatedly attacking corpses, etc.
Honour is gained by killing enemies face-to-face, waiting for unarmed enemies to grab a weapon, letting enemies flee off-map, letting them get back on their feet after a knockdown, and so on.
Basically, it's a measure of how chivalrous you are in battle! However, things get a little bit more complicated when, say, you're dual-wielding and stab someone with your left hand, then slash them with your right hand. It should be an honourable kill. BUT, if the initial stab caused them to drop their weapon, then the killing slash might count as dishonourable as they are now unarmed! That could be what happened to you - it's not always apparent that they've dropped their sword when you're performing a swift double attack, for example.
The Honour system has only been introduced with the Update 7 Beta, so it will likely be refined and improved as development progresses. My advice for now would be to focus on the position of the guy you're targeting, make sure he's looking in your general direction and has a weapon in his hand (shields don't count either way) before going in for the kill - pay extra special attention to your enemies when they are grouped up! Don't just wade into the battle flailing your weapons in every direction :p In several hours of playing the U7 Beta, the only time I've seen a match end with negative Honour was when my friend played
But I agree, it is a tad bit confusing. (And using a large shield should be negative honor automatically)
