Fighter of Evil is an action game that takes place in the near future. A hotel placed an emergency call to a group of fighters that dispel spirits. Unfortunately staff and clients have been taken hostage.

Your job should you choose to actually play it after this review is to go through the hotel, and free the captured people and dispel the spirits. This game features 30 levels and a whopping 3+ weapons! Thankfully, the poor dialogue is kept to a minimum (which is actually considered a feature on the Steam page)

Starting the game right off the bat I ran into problems, there are no options and I was unable to get the game to go into full screen mode. The build I have is a beta build, so hopefully this will be addressed. I didn’t care for the sound or music, unfortunately there’s no easy way to mute the sound or music, since there’s ZERO options, so I had to actually mute it through the Windows 10 mixer board. Another fault in this game is that it has zero gamepad support. Strictly mouse and keyboard with no configurability.

Starting off you get a HORRENDOUS comic book picture that does nothing but instill fear in you…. fear that this is going to be a crappy game.

Yeah, that’s a real treat isn’t it? The funny thing is there’s no real reason for the character to even be kicking in the door, it’s a hotel open for business.

So after you get through the horrendous comic book, you are dumped in a room with a lovely woman who tells you what is going on, in the most possibly broken English ever. I’m not picky when it comes to games, bad graphics won’t scare me off since I’ve been gaming since Atari, but one thing that does is broken English in a game, and this game so far is FULL of it.

Once you get past Granny and her babushka, you will be put into a room with spikes and a person tied to a post. (What kind of hotel has spikes on their floor?) Once you navigate the spikes and get over to the person, you’ll be tasked with pushing the E button, once you do so the tied up person turns into a ghost or melts, or something? I’m not even sure, at this point does it even matter?Immediately after entering the next room I walked on a mine and exploded due to me not being able to see it because of the small size of the screen. Ugh. As I prepared to walk past the fireplace with some nice Christmas lights (or Festivus) and presents, I exploded for no reason. I finally figured out that I exploded due to one of the Christmas/Festivus presents coming to life and touching me. That’s right, the “League of Evil Spirits Fighters” or whatever they would call themselves managed to hire someone who dies upon contact of a wrapped cardboard parcel.

After misjudging the pinpoint accurate death trap of a mine and spike trap, I then realized I had lost all my lives, and had to start the level over.. I found a room with a machine gun firing by itself, that can shoot you and you can survive, but touch a bouncing Christmas present and you’re DEADER than ♥♥♥♥. This game is horrendous, and if I had paid even .25 for it I would have asked for a refund. Stay away, far away.

First of all, the game has clearly been google translated into English. I'm not entirely certain what the story is but I think that some evil spirits have invaded a hotel and set up assault rifle turrets. I've got absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. I think there are no save points, but I can't be certain. Graphics are the bad kind of pixel art.

You are, for no apparent reason, an evil spirit killing cop-type guy. Or you might just be a lunatic with a ski mask and a shotgun. Either way you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ poor at you job, cause you keep dying and the developers somehow forgot to include a save feature. So enjoy having to replay the same freaking levels over and over again. I thought we left that password crap in the past, but apparently not so.

The story of the game... well, I dont really think there is a story. You have to navigate the screen, rescuing some piles of disformed pixels while avoiding other piles of disformed pixels. Clear the screen and find the exit. Job done. Will you be shooting stuff? Yeah. Kinda. A lot actually.

The game in itself is hard enough as it is but it’s actually made even harder by the game running in a window the size of a small stamp in the middle of the screen. I seriously had to press my face flat against my monitor to even notice that the game was running in "stamp mode". Pressing F1 will put the game in a full screen mode so you can truly enjoy the horrible "pixel art" graphics.

But okay, it’s cheap as dirt, so you get what you pay for, right? Well, getting shanked in a dark urine-stained alley by a bunch of cokeheads is free, but I wouldn’t recommend that to anyone based on its price. So no. Cheap won’t cut it here.

But hey... trading cards!

A fun pixel adventure. Grab your guns. Avoid traps. Shoot evil in the face. A pretty hard game but it's fun and makes you want to try again.

Plot/Overview:

From the description it looks like you're a fighter against evil spirits that have possessed the entire staff of a hotel and some of it's guests. Pretty barebones, but when the game's description has "Minimum dialogues and a lot of action," any form of plot is going to be lacking.


Menus:

-Sparse no real options to set, windowed/fullscreen toggle doesn't do anything.
-Game opens in a window about 300x300 in size.
-Control just shows you the keybindings without the ability to rebind any key.
-No audio sliders to be seen anywhere.
-Password function serves as a throwback to older games.
-Credits is self explainatory.


Music/Sound: Soundtrack is catchy at times and has a retro feel to it.
The sounds are servicable but basic.


Gameplay: Action platformer with basic controls, movement is left/right based and jumping. You get 3 lives and that's it. If you use all of your ammo on one life, you don't respawn with refreshed ammo when you die. Trap and enemy avoidance is made difficult because the controls aren't that precise, and are rather clumsy. Jumping feels stiff. FoE is going for that hard difficulty right out of the gate, doesn't explain anything and it's just trial and error.
Guns that aren't very accurate even at pointblank range.

Well I would like this to have been really good, but with the accuracy nonexistant as well as not much else in here besides 3 your gonna die 12 times before you die 12 more times somewhere else. it needs some tweaks, to change guns you use the scrollwheel for those who didnt figure it out. but traps killing you instantly and bullets not so much without any way to make them accurate. to take to much damage and do far to little for what you have to do with 3 lives...

I usually would go into more detail on a review but there isnt much else here, you get told to save the hostages which look more like you sacrifice them instead to some 8 bit god... you have too little ammo... your shotgun is more like a rifle, and the SMG is a glorified pea shooter.

Seems like you should be able to take more damage or enemies should do less.

This game is garbage.

I would probably suggest a easy, medium, and hard mode. I like the graphics and the 2D layout brings me back. One other thing is though you should give check points maybe or something like this I found it to be little hard, but im not that good with games like this. Also a full screen would be cool.

For the price this game is pretty enjoyable. Kinda intense and a bit frustrating. It does NOT hold your hand at all.
