Right now I am playing a paladin and I got a couple of passives from the budoka (no stun/crit, and the ranged attack defense) and thinking of adding the sworddancer's dust in the wind and unconcious riposte. Might also get the thorn skin from the floromancer. When paired with shield slam, shield mastery and radiant aura, it seems like a good way to build a tanky character with high block/parry and a lot of punishment again melee enemies. A bit low on mobility though.
> Thorned Skin applies after mitigation , so the impact is very low
-> concider going for Wild Childs "Panthox Skin" its a good defensive passive
Movement
It is never good to not have any mobility spells , because the drawback of not having them is big and having them has literally no downside
Concider:
>Hunters "Grappling Hook"
>Spellshifters "Delayed Teleport"
I prefer GH , you can also go for both.
>(Sworddancers "Wild Horse")
Sworddancer
If you decide to roll SD
> "Wild horse" is a good offensive movement spell ( Low cost , high dmg , low cd)
> "Hold the Moon" is a good defensive spell ( which is even better with the skill orb)
> "Dust in the Wind" seems to fit your playstyle very well as u described
> "Phoenix Wing" might also be something you should concider
What you should also look into is:
HuSyn
> Runic Crystal + Fortify
= 15%DEF/DMG and a nice pet that soaks up damage for you ( you never know when you´ll need it)
Emerald Set
That should be your go to armor set for lategame , this one is bonkers combined with the heavy armor masterie

This is more or less a TLDR if you need more , hit me up
Cheers

1) Start Floramancer
> grab Bed of Thorns and Summon Floracanda
>> Switch class to Soulkeeper before even entering the tutorial
2) As Soulkeeper
> grab parting gifts
> grab summon Soulshade
>(grab reverberate Monster if you like to cheat) [You can use it on Boss enemies , which makes the bossfights trivial)
>> Switch class to HuSyn
3) As Husyn
> grab runic crystal
> grab fortify
>> Swap to Paladin (if you have the skillorb for radient aura)
>> Swap to Floramancer ( if you need spitting plant)
>> Swap to Wild Child (if you need the resistences)
>> Swap to Soul Keeper ( if you need Spiritwalk)
>> Swap to Brigand / Budoka (if you need the passives)
Any advice for a spellshaper build? I'm guesing the floramancer/soul keeper pets end up being very important.
As a foundation you can take my floramancer build and just swap to spellshaper at 2)
Though I think this might be getting me killed a lot.
Most of the times I´d say dont open them before entering NG+ , because there are some spells / attacks / combos that almost 100 -> 0 you , and with the max. amount boxes opened , they sure will.
I am playing the easy mode Paladin, but even when I take a pet, I just cannot deal enough damage to win this battle. I have died 4 times now.
What I don't get is it tells me to keep levelling up if I find him too hard, but how do i do that when the monsters hardly respawn on the floors beneath him after I have cleared them?
The highest level I have been when i get to him is about lev 7.
What you can try is to kill the trash first at the wall ( pulling them through there and killing them one by one)
The lack of damage can be balanced by using consumables (fire brew etc) they deal a heck ton of damage.
If both of those not work , you might multiclass before entering , but since I dont know ur playstyle I can only tell u the general good stuff :
floramancer -> summon floracanda as a meatwall , so you have more time to put dmg out or brigand -> 100% crit passive , for a quick burst
so i decided to change the mode from roguelike to "diablo" mode where you repop at town when you die.
but it seems i got a bad deal out of it : the game seems too easy in this mode. does it change other settings than the respawn things ?
is there a way to change the starting bonus in this mode?
If you started the game , there is no way to modify the difficulty in it.
The "adventure mode" only makes u respawn in the town , the monsters have the same difficulty.
i tend to get sleepy following my pet who wrecks everything, until it get ineluctably ganked by some boss + goones, after which i die real fast :p
story of 99% of my run so far XD
is the game winnable without relying on summons and pets ?
(i currently play as a thane with the floramancer summon, a mud frog pet and axe mastery)
