IMO the easiest mode w/out permadeath should be more of an endless mode w/ a scaling cavern that resets on death. The way the mode is now essentially makes it hardcore permadeath since you have to restart due to cavern not resetting (no more supplies/gp) & lose your town progress.
The item dreams didn't reset either and I did those & used all supplies I got lol. Probably just a noob playthrough and will do better.
How do you create a new character in that slot? Change class at the guy in town? Also, does that reset the cavern? I must be just a huge noob lol. I'll get it right eventually, I promise =)
Try fighting below average monsters. The monsters will always respawn (though a bit slowly). You can track these monsters down on the large map (press tab) by the red dots. Also, try to avoid hitting those shiney Pandora treasure chests (the ones with the jumpy lids). It makes ALL the monsters in the game a bit tougher each time. >_>;;;
Also, are you using a class that says its kinda hard to use? Try the easier classes (like the Bandit or um..I think the paladin?), where u can hit things or escape from things or shoot things from a distance.
By the way, if you haven't done so, grab a ranged weapon, like a slingshot or a bow, because you can switch to that when the enemy is kinda far and just pelt them until they reach you in melee range and then whack em with your melee weapon. If the monster is weak enough, you can probably kill them with just one skill/spell.
Don't rush into battle attracting 3 monsters at once. See you, shoot it with an arrow, then fall back to a safer location where you know monsters aren't at (check the large map). That way u can safely and easily kill it 1 vs 1 without having to frantically use your resources to heal and spam all your skills to survive.
A single item dream resets some npcs, but not all npcs. You might need to do a second one to reset the ones you want. Be sure to go to the cavern entrance in town to teleport to any places you've been that special npcs were at. You can stock up on them too if they renewed their inventory.
The guy in town that can train you different class skills doesn't change your class. You just learn other class skills. That's all. In order to change class, you need a job change scroll. But even if you change your class, the town and npc and everything is still the same. You still got your money, your npc progress, and nothing is renewed.
There is no way I know that will totally repopulate all the monsters on a map you've already cleared with your existing character staying alive. To get more resources from npcs, you gotta do Item Dreams to reset their inventory, or farm respawning monsters from a slightly lower difficulty map (this may take a while). Anyway, in item dreams, you can get a lot of loot from there as well :)
The easiest game mode is basically permadeath mode, w/ the stuff kept on death as a bonus. Since you have to create a new character to get new supplies. From what I read the easiest mode was more of an endless mode that you could grind at and build the same character up. Like when you die everything resets (flasks, secret items, item rooms w/ banans and stuff, etc) and you end up in town. Must of just misread it.
IMO the easier mode should have a resetting/scaling (based on your character level) cavern on death. That way you can really grind at it and just gogogogo for ages. Dying and respawning in town with half gold/jp only makes it slightly easier than permadeath but I guess it is OK. Game is supposed to be permadeath not grind so I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel.
