Trials -- the Jarlaxle dilemma.
We all know the pivotal role that Jarlaxle plays in successful, smooth trial runs. As a 'core' champion, he has innate access to easy item levels while not being particularly useful for most content. That makes him ideal for the role of buffing the assault party's damage. But since each champion is *unique*, that also means you have to watch your trial composition like a hawk to make sure somebody doesn't try to use a badly geared Jarlaxle and greatly impede your trial runs as a result.

But the solution is actually *REALLY* simple: up the cap on assault scrolls from 50% to 200%. Anyone who's been running trials for a long time will be swimming in them anyway (since the most that can be used is 5, and only if other assault champions don't max out the bonus), and it'll take some pressure off of groups always having a high-end Jarlaxle assigned. In fact, it would allow groups to ignore him entirely for a change.

This is a good and elegant idea - i would love to see the need for a high end assault buffer (and there are only 3 available afaik) removed.

But im not holding my breath for trials to be fixed or reworked anytime soon.

I think the devs are happy with their glorious "multiplayer" mode and are bussy pushing in more money grabs - at least thats my observation from the last two years :lunar2020stoicox:

Supposedly the devs are looking into removing the "send a champ" mechanic from trials altogether, but given their past it could take them upwards of two years to act on that. Hopefully it won't be that long now that they've cut loose most of the repeat work that was preventing them from doing virtually anything else.

A 100% Makos is by far the most important one, since you can't buff the scales reward with scrolls. It's always been annoying that there's no way to swap your hero with someone else's if you've got a better one, not even a chat box or UI info notifying if someone has a better ranked hero.

The buffs need reworking too. The most important are scales and assault party buff, the others are no where near as useful. I'd rework them to something more useful like game speed increase, start zone % increase, target zone % decrease. Maybe max 10% for the zone buffs. Everyone's buff would then be something useful.

There's still the problem that if you're running with less than 100% Makos then it feels like you're wasting 4 days of your time, this leads to jumping between lobbies until finding someone who has such a hero (not me yet), so they need to find a way to lessen his importance. If they just made another couple evergreen champs give a scales boost then that would help a lot. Usually no one has Krull or Paultin levelled up enough to give sufficient boosts.

Makos isn't a requirement for smooth, efficient completion of trials at the higher end. Makes your runs more valuable, but not less sketchy. That's why he's more optional compared to Jarlaxle. Because without a solid bonus to assault team damage, most runs extend into failure territory quite quickly. And that's even worse for earning scales.

What does it take to max out a Jarlaxle and Makos?
Hecate Jun 15, 2024 @ 1:04am
9750 ilvl for Jarlaxle & 4750 ilvl for Makos.

Formulas are 5% + 0.02%/ilvl IIRC
