Use speed potions
You can unlock speed champions like Deekin, Briv, Hew Maan, and Shandie to speed up the game.

You can unlock the speed Modron core.

Several champions will increase the speed of a run. These champions will have the "Speed" tag in their descriptions. But some champions with that tag don't really do anything (Minsk) The ones that help the most are (in a rough you might want to get them):
Hew Maan (increases progress for each kill)
Shandie (makes game run faster)
Briv (skips levels)
Widdle (faster enemy spawn)
Sentry (reduce area requirements)
Deekin (faster enemy spawn)
Melf (a variable speed boost)
Vi (faster enemy spawn)
Nahara (reduce area requirements)

Melf and Vi are in the same slot so you only need one. I think Melf is better if you have sufficient item levels on him. But I'm no expert.
Havilar boosts speed when fiends are presents, so she is most reliable for speed in Avernus missions.

The 2nd Modron core you can unlock (with the Split the Party 2 mission) has 3 nodes that speed up runs. Those unlock at Core levels 5,10, and 15. To unlock those as quickly as possible, you probably want to run Nordom in your party since he makes Modron cores level faster.

Additionally, you can also use speed potions.

And some of your question spills over into automation, so this one too:
