Nice.
I do agree that the time-limited nature of the current corrupted-gem offerings is a bad design choice. If it's a rotating thing, it's less of a deal. But if it's a year or more between 'support pigments' rotating back into the store again, or if they never return, that's...really not okay.
at least all unbought items carry over for exactly 1 event, but then again that does not help, because you probably want whatever is new then
i'd be curious just how many new items there will be next time
They just want $$$. I get it we all need to eat and pay bills but it's getting over zealous and player good faith will eventually erode.
The area gain by pigment bought is log(3)/log(2) = 1.585 area per pigment.
It's my Friday. No maths for me lol. Thank you though - your a good source of information. I do appreciate it.
Some of these new variants are locked behind some pretty absurd variant counts, and many of the variants in those campaigns are *WAY* outside the reach of newer players, requiring a pretty large stable of champions who are at least reasonably equipped (mix of rare and epic). And then there are the variants that award the corrupted gems to complete. Have you looked at some of those? One of the new waterdeep variants is 'Bully For You' on steroids. Newer players don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of beating it.
They have until the end of the next incursion -- which will finish up roughly June 1st -- to get those corrupted gems to spend on the current items. Newer players aren't going to manage that without buying their way through a lot of champions and champion chests. As long as the store is a combination of new offerings and a rotating selection of older ones, it's no big deal. You get these things when you can, like timegates and event reruns. You can wait or pay CNE to skip it. But if the 'rotation' is too extreme in length or certain items never show up in the incursion shop again, that's not okay.
- It ends at area 450 instead of 600.
- Champions are taken away every 50 areas instead of every 25. Combined with the above this means you'll lose 8 champions instead of 23.
- Lowest intelligence is much easier to predict. In Bully for You a champion getting removed affects the available champion count for that seat, which is used to decide which champion gets removed next. In the new variant you can front-load your formation with low-intelligence champions and you'll know those are the ones that will get removed. You only need to be careful if you want to use a low-intelligence champion in your final formation.
The one thing that makes it harder is that it only allows magic champions, which is only about one third of all existing champions. But given that Bully for You eats 15 more champions and needs e45 more damage, I'm inclined to think this is still easier.
You keep talking about players who are starting now, but what about those who start in June? It would be pretty stupid of CNE to offer a significant power boost which can't be obtained if you start after a certain date. Skins and other cosmetics, sure. But so far the only game I've ever seen where older players are just flat-out more powerful is EVE online, and it has other ways to balance things out.
We'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully they have other rewards planned which are equally powerful. Events are on a year-long rotation too, although time gates exist to access any event at any time. On the other hand getting a specific champion is much more important than a specific form of generic global damage boost.
That means, that gem shop will be constantly available in future or, at least, periodically.
With somewhat rewards in it, probably.
Anyways, as the shop rewards will be available till the 2nd events end, it's wise to take the things you're sure you want (gold item, feats) and keep what's left for 2nd event.
I won't buy support pigments now: who knows, maybe on 2nd event it'll be "DPS +300%".
