Once you hit 15, (or 16 if you also want to level click damage) you can assign familiars to the ult bar to automatically use certain ults, which can be useful for powering up certain champions.
Then of course there's the multiple parties, which depending on what you want to do to them can as much as quadruple the amount of familiars you're using.
f.e. i have played for 9 month now, i am missing 4 from the gem shop and i have 18 familiars, EDITt: never bought one outright, i have two from season passes (20 in total :)
hm feels like i played this game last 3 weeks or so but maybe i missed the one from "steam giveaway", where was it? or which familiar was it?
what is patrons?
im new to
i have currently 7 familiars;
mage hand familiar (blue default skin)
pixie (from gem shop)
goldfish familiar , xanathar
cube familiar
baby panther familiar
baby tiger familiar
jim darkmagic dove familiar
nah, sorry, what i meant with never bought outright is, that these two are collateral damage ^^ ofc i paid 2x for a season pass
the four patrons have their own currency shops (mirt, varja, zariel & strahd) you can get one familiar from each of them for patron currency
edit: the jim darkmagic dove was from that giveaway!
familiars help collect gold and fire off specials, But just for that you need 7 per group, then 4 groups so 28 just for that. (though for me i typically just use 3 collecting gold, then one for specials) Then if you want groups to auto level you need one for each character you want to lvl. The Modron cores which come after split the group, meaning you have 2 heroes in each slot.. That can automate resets which means if your doing an early reset with say 4-6 heroes you need a familiar for each one. But for full party+ all the collecting ans specials you need 16-18 per formation.
Basically, lots of familiars is good. If you want to spend money on the game, Season pass, and familiars are the way to do it. Grabbing familiars for 2.50 on sale is a very worth while buy for new players, then season pass if you like/use the heroes in it. I bought the last one, but i'm passing on this one just because. It's also good to remember you can buy the season pass at any time, so if you see you really made it a long way into the season it's worth grabbing later.
At least buy the gem ones up to 100k.. I'm not sure after that if other things are better, but for me up to 100k was worth it. Though had i made it to split the party 3 i probably would of spent that 100k on a strong core, now i'm waiting on that, but with 3 parties it shouldn't take that long.
