Is Jarlaxle is a must because of his gold making or can i actually use other champion ?

I personally have enough of him, want to use something else but can i ? Is using someone else then him optimal ? Because of his buffs to gold earning.

If someone else does more dps absolutely switch to them. Usually if you can make it more than a few levels farther, it's more worth to use a stronger dps, because the amount of gold you get goes up at a rate of like 20% or something per level.

What Soteria said but just to add, in case you need gold at the beginning of the run to level heroes faster you can use Jarl and only later in the same adventure swap him for a better dps hero.

Little extra to what the others wrote, if you have enough BUD to kill some enemies you can briefly field Jarlaxle, trigger the ultimate, profit, then bench him again and keep going :)
Once you unlock Azaka (in Tomb of Annihilation) you'll be able to also use him whenever you want to gain oodles of gold (see "Azaka Farm")

Ishi is a great replacement for Jarlaxle. She offers some really good gold find bonus, and if you combine her with Lazaapz and a formation comprised of all the shorties, her DPS will go crazy high too, way higher than what Jarlaxle can do. She has the fastest attack speed of anyone else (as far as I'm aware), since she always attacks the front-most enemy a quarter of a second before anyone else, meaning she basically has no cooldown on normal attacks once you start reaching a wall, and her multiple attacks don't decrease in damage like Jarlaxle's do.

Stoki is also good. Ki Explosion is an incredibly powerful ability that can make her do more damage than even your highest DPS champion in the formation. Ki Strikes helps groups push in to deeper areas to get more gold, which results in gaining more favour overall, and Golden Palm really starts to shine when she's able to stack marks of ki on enemies.

Paultin is pretty good for a gold find and buffer too, provided your formation allows you to put a lot of non-dps champions near him to maximise on the gold find boost. Tricky to get him to do anything substantial in Grand Tour, but works pretty well in Tomb Of Annihilation and other adventures.

The best damage dealers are currenlty Asharra and Zorbu. But Asharra needs several heroes that push her to her full potential. Zorbu is better till you have a nice team for Ash.

Once you have a good team, Zorbu + Krull or a full Ash formation, you will only use Jarlaxle for Azaka farming anymore.

When i started i remember people recommending me Jarlaxle and once i red his gold buff ability i was like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this is the best ever!
So first few months i think he was so overhwelmingly powerfull because i didnt have many heroes so my item drops were consistently leveling his gear. + i was using 90% of my blacksmith contracts on him.
So by the time i got Zorbu even then Jarlaxle was overwhelmingly higher on the dps meter.
I had to put a bit of work on Zorbu with speed potions and farming his enemies to balance out Jar`s seniority.
Also as others said higher zones push your gold much more and once you get some good favor Jarlaxle`s buff does not seem that effective or necessary.

Any new player reading this part, don't use your smithy contracts on evergreens. They get plenty of ilvl increase from silver and gold chests!

i think it depends on how actively you play. I wasnt doing in my 1-2 months events and time gates so there was really no other place to dump your conracts. But i definitely remember someone advising me to level Jarlaxle to ilvl 200 and stop. So thats what i did.

what was the logic in that? :-) At least I actually used Krond as main DPS for a very long time :-)

I'm dumping all of mine in to Farideh. Now that I have a shortie formation though I hardly ever use her, but I'm continuing to power her gear up purely to get the achievement for getting a piece of gear to ilvl 250. XD

Generally though I prefer to make my own formations rather than meta ones though, so I'll likely find a fresh use for her for a patron or something.
