Jarlaxle beginner party?

Is it recommended to buy a few Drow and Rogues to get faster campaign starts with Jarlaxle's gold find?

Don't bother. His usefulness as the main DPS fades VERY quickly, and it is better to build gold find party from specialists, not from some random rogues buffing Jarlaxle.

If you want to get SOME rogues usable for that purpose, get Rust, Astarion and B&G. Rust and Astarion are very solid gold find champions, and B&G are a Swiss knife with lots of uses outside of favor farming. Regis can do the trick as well, but he is not that good as a gold find champion.

Depends on what you mean by "buy". It is never worth it to spend real money on a champ, even the best champ in the entire game.

If you mean time gates, there are a few respectable buffers and important champs in general that are drow/rogue, like Hew Mann, Spurt, or Shandie. You're probably better off time gating another gold find champ though.

Since I haven't beaten area 175 in any campaign time gates sound much too early for my taste.

Time gates only need you to beat area 50 to unlock the champion, and most/all gates have a "challenge" rating that's about as hard as your very first run through the game - but you should have more ilvls in your champions than you had then, and more experience with how formations work, so it will be easier to get to z50. The two variants within a time gate - plus the free play - are optional to have that brand new champion geared up, but not mandatory.

With each new gate you go through, it gets easier because you'll always have more ilvls and more champions to choose from. The initial twelve are "training wheels" characters, honestly. I rarely use any of them, only one who has a fixed spot is Jarlaxle, and his "spot" is being always away, punching Tiamat in the face.

Edit: The "area 50" thing also applies to events. You don't need to 100% an event, just getting the three champions would already allow you to get through things easier. But while optional, going through the whole event/whole time gate variant can be worth the time.

Beware variants reducing the number of available champions or party slots. Most other variants aren't that difficult.

Also pay no heed to the "difficulty" indicator on any adventure or variant. It only takes into consideration how high a zone you need to get to, but thoroughly ignores things like "seven of your nine formation slots are taken" or "your champions do 0.0001% of their normal damage" so you'll have some "green" variants that are hellish, and some "red" variants that are very easy, just take a lot of time to get through.

It's not favor, just how many zones they have. I have e45 favor in Witchlight and some of the late stages are still shown as yellow, have been shown as yellow since I was at e30, even though whenever I do get around tackling them, it's never a matter of "how" but "when" for completing them.

And meanwhile, Are Ya Chicken shows in green even though I only completed it with Mirt and I am not looking forwards to ever doing it again with any patron, ever. "Yes, I am chicken."

Witchlight is an exception. Fair difficulty in it is a gag because the campaign starts at a fair.

Technically it's total favor cross-referenced with goal stage, so collecting more favor will make variants display as easier.
