Long story short, 300% is not enough to make a real difference. But it's easy enough to get far more favor than that, you just need to leave the game open and let the gold accumulate instead of hitting "complete" ASAP.
gold multiplier is all about how fast you will progress into higher areas. and higher areas means more gold to multiply for next reset.
using familiars? more gold also means more click damage in lower levels and faster progress. it is just that it lasts to only around area-100 but still makes it there faster.
for events, you need to know your normal limits. mine is around area-230. I leave the game open until I get at least 10 time the previous value for first few runs, mostly up to 150. then 3-5 times until 200. then the rest depends on event. you need your own data to decide.
