How does leveling gear work?
I am sure there must be a guide here for this, but I am probably missing the correct keyword to track it down.

Does anyone have a simple explanation for how leveling gear works?

I am also curious because I just dropped a bunch of purple blacks smith contracts and shiny potions on an event toon, and didn't quite get the results I was hoping for.

Its all random... shiny pots on random chars and random items. BS Contracts on chosen Chars and random items...

Leveling gear allows you to get a bit more of a bonus from that item, and use out of your duplicate items.

Each duplicate piece of gear gives you a % increase in power for that gear slot.

When you get a gear upgrade, say green to blue, the gear level gets increased by the % from the green item now being a duplicate piece.

The blacksmith contracts apply the equivalent % of getting a duplicate piece of gear, based on their colour, to a random piece of the Champions gear if that Champion has all 6 pieces of gear.

The Ultimate Cooldown Reduction items have caps, since the cooldown can't go past a certain point, and you shouldn't receive those pieces of gear once you are at cap.

Shiny potions apply randomly to any Champion who needs a shiny upgrade, and provide a 50% bonus to the entire gear slot.

Thank you for the explanation. Can we use a concrete example, though? If I have a level 10 green item and then get the blue, does that mean the blue is augmented the equivalent of 10 greens?

If you have a level 10 green, it would be a level 12 blue, since a green is worth 2 levels.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Wouldn't this turn the level 10 green item into a level 16 blue?

As I said, a green item is only worth 2 levels. You only get levels from duplicates, not replacements.

You are not disenchanting the blue gear when you earn it.

The blue is replacing your green gear because it is better and the green is being broken down.

So you had level 10 green version, you get 2 levels from the green, it is now a level 12 blue.

If you receive another blue copy of that same gear, then it would become a level 18 blue.

Cool, thanks for the clarification!
for short, every gear starts at level 1

and for every duplicate you get;
1 level from white
2 levels from green
6 levels from blues
24 levels from purples

being shiny is not a type, you may have white shiny, and get a green then green becomes the shiny, and so on.

WHAT!? So I'm in huge loss since I've used 50 blacksmithing contract on green items... That doesn't make a sense. How can level 20 green and level 1 green item could be same? If that is, how it works, nobody should use a single blacksmithing contract until get all max epics and shinies...

You apparently did not understand ... your levels and rarity are separate. If you have a green item, put contracts in it, it increases your ilvls for that item. If you find a blue item to upgrade it, your rarity (and bonus) increases and you DO NOT LOSE your ilvls gained before.

Oh. My bad. I thought it is broken down only for two levels. Thank you.
