Hello,
I just started playing and redeemed a bunch of chest codes. I have 50 electrium, 26 gold, 6 silver and a whole bunch of others at 2.
When should I open them?

Silver chests for event heroes - any time, but preferably at the end of your adventure to maximize gold drops.

Buy/Collect some more regular silver chests, and open them, also at the end of your adventure. The idea is to get at least green items in all slots of all default champions and Hitch.

After that you can start opening regular gold chests.

After that you can start opening electrum chests.

After that you can start opening gold chests for event champions.

Welcome, as Kab says essentially re the chests.
When you are new you can't really go wrong as everything goes to your power and you need power to progress further.

Yes, kab_reg is right about regular silver chests. Always use them at the end of each mission to help get a little bit more favor earned.

As for the electrum chests, I do recommend waiting on them until all your free or 'evergreen' champions have gear from regular silver and gold chests. Then, the electrum chests will be more likely to give you gear for event champions like the current 'Dungeon Master' one.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. The community here is fairly friendly and helpful.

Definitely pay attention to the current combinations that OldGamer mentioned. Do it at least daily or every 3-4 days. Most codes expire a week after they are posted. So, get caught up and check back frequently.

Thanks. I guess another question is about hero formations. Is it just learning what each one does and how they interact?

I'll echo what SevenBlueSeven said about sequence. Especially for a new champion, you want to open them after you've unlocked a new champion as they are most likely to give better gear for the new un-geared champion. That way when you do get gold chests, the change of rare/epic is still the same, so they end up boosting level more.

so in game these things pop up saying watch for a chest well i have watched a few and have not gotten the damn chest from any of them do they send you a code or some crap

I do wish that pop-up announcements for streams and other annoyances were an opt-in feature.
