Black Viper Bugged?

As soon as I start a game before I get to level 5 I make sure I farm enough mobs on level 4 to get Black Viper's level 35 Jewel thief active. So I can start farming red gems. Then I get her Collector Specialization at 215 as fast as possible, usually by 19. Here I am at level 150, where her Collector specialization has been active for 130 levels, where she has been out, and I have gotten 26 chances for red gems, and I have gotten.....4? Does the collector specialization increase the 33% by 33%? Or is it supposed to be a total 66%? If it's the latter I'm getting duped. Even if it's the former, I'm really on the low end of the probability here.

Even if it's meant to be increasing the 33% by 33% that would be 44%, and i should have 11.6 by now, not 4. Heck, even at just the base 33% 1/3 of 26 is 8.6! I'm not even getting that!

I'm not sure... and maybe this isn't the help you're looking for, but Black Viper is really bad even if you max out her gems. Fun character concept, but not worth worrying about farming every last gem for.

There is a lot to unpack here
1) the initial chance is 25%
2) increasing it by 33% (25*1.33 = 33) so the chance after applying the spec is 33% (you can read this in her UPGRADES tab
3) you sound like the person in a casino complaining that the ball does not fall on red every second time.

In your example, in the 26 chances to get a red gem you got 4. That is under the expected value but nothing tragic. Expected value is around 8. You will have runs where it will be 12, you will have runs where it will be 4 like you have now. No big deal.

Since it's a % chance you can have runs at 33% with 0 pick ups, there's no pity timer on statistics

Bad? Yes. Not worth farming? I'd still do as I did in the day - farm during run-up to wall (unless trying to make up an epic adventure). There's always the chance she'll be needed in some variant/challenge.

He's pausing at level 4 to farm enough gold to make sure he has her specialization before the first boss. She's 100% not worth that level of care or time. Certainly, work on getting her gems over time.

The only champ 100% worth levelling ASAP is Freely (to level 10), and even then it's only when favour farming. Everyone else maybe is worth it only if they are in the "until reset" group and can't be farmed after the fact (that's pretty much only Nova, isn't it?)

In order of Champions I've acquired past the initial 12 is baeloth, nerys, hitch, briv, omin, and now black viper, hence why i'm trying to get black viper red gem count up, because with an epic for her already (my max epics is two for nayeli, and tied for one with most others) she IS one of my best DPS. Jarlaxle is my actual best if I don't choose his gold spec.

Try to pick up Jim or Birdsong. I promise that by the time you get a significant number of gems on BV you'll have better options. A lot of people are using Ashaara very successfully these days, as well.

If you enjoy BV by all means continue--it's a game, do what's fun! But from an efficiency standpoint I really recommend you don't pause and farm with her. You're better off quickly getting to your wall so you can increase your favor--eventually you'll get to her Collector spec in like the first zone.

indeed good advice from an efficiency perspective - just rushing to wall over and over again is just better then stopping on lvl 4 (or whichever level except for the wall).
Jim, Birdsong or even Hitch are probably better options. Ash too, but for that you need more heroes to activate the bonds.
Anyway, I also played with BV and used her constantly to farm the gems. When I finally got them all - well - it was anti-climatic at best :-)

She really suffers from having been created early enough that they were still experimenting with ideas, being given too many new features at once and not yet getting a redesign with what they know now.

I think if her gem finding worked more like Nova's Curiosity and bonuses were more like Zorbu's Lifelong Enemies she wouldn't be such a disappointment.
