Free plays: Donaar, Avren or Ezmerelda?

I used this event to unlock all three characters as I didn't have Donaar or Avren already unlocked, but now I'm wondering which character I should spend all my bounties and tokens on.

I'm not entirely eager to kit out Donaar as he takes up the same slot as Regis, and I'm certainly using Regis as a great support character, but Avren's slot sees almost no use from me.

Ezmerelda is new, so I have no idea if she's any good or not and she takes up Bruenor's slot. I leveled her up a bit to see what she's capable of and I don't feel all that impressed.

I tried subbing in Avren, but currently his gear is terrible (and he's not even fully geared) so I have no idea if he's actually really good or not.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Also actually never mind about what slots Donaar and Ezmerelda take up, I just remembered I can still use them for other concurrent parties. Currently though Donaar is terrible for support, and Ezmerelda I probably don't know how to best use.

Donaar is good for the gold formation parties, you simply need him unlocked any further improvement doesn't help his gold find of drop

Avern is one of the best buffers in the game

Ezmerelda is... well... psylisa described it as a hot mess 2/10 hero... possibly one of the least useful ones going so far

Avren is amazing. Donaar gets used sometimes for his healing or his gold debuff.

Don't forget that Donaar is great vs armored bosses (maybe second best after krull). With equal gear he can even be better than Regis if you need a healer.
Avren you need to learn how to use and is very dependant on positioning but I agree that he is a great buffer (even without much gear)
Ezme does not work properly so no comment. I don't like her so far.

I disagree, she's very useful. It is just a circumstantial champ.

To the question,
It really depends how you play.

I like Ezzy due to the fact she supports my other support guys debuffsand ultimately the DPS. Minsc, Jaheira, Avren all work well with her.

So ultimately it is how you perceive the abilities that work for you.

Therefore, as I already had Donaar (from a free a while back) and Avren (free just last weekend), I only needed to get rid of their two greens and work on getting epics. Avren has 3 now and Donaar has 4. Whilst Ezzy starting with 0 gear, so I focused on her, to get her up to snuff with the other two, now at 2 epcs, all blue.

Going forward I probably try another round to get Avren to 4/5 epics if I am lucky. With him his Tube gear is the epic to go for I think, which I haven't got yet.
Whilst Ezzy I will try to fully complete so I don't have to come back to anytime soon.

So, "it depends" where you at. And as your all 0 with them. I would focus on Avren the most there. But if you can at least get them all blues. Evenly spread, as Gaar says, in gear is the best way to handle this game early on at least. (in events)

I'm curious to try Ezmerelda on Sauriel's resolve. I haven't done it yet because I don't have Zorbu's feat, but with the advent of modron cores and some new champs I suspect it's not going to be so hard. Real shame not having that feat this weekend--I'd love to use Lazaapz as well, but she won't buff Jim.

Could you elaborate on that? I can't see the synergy... at all

Avren is currently one of the best support in game, and he really (really!) shines in sturdy mirror mode with 4 mirror-equipped champions touching him. Bottom line is his absence tends to go very noticed.

Donaar has his own niche: he's STRrong, he's fast, he can heal everyone, he boosts anyone at his column and behind, he pukes (armoured things hate that), and most importantly he helps keep enemies away from the formation. Bottom line is there are times you want him.

Ezmeralda I still haven't figured out if she's worth the contracts

Still, I'd recommend to make sure to unlock everyone and possibly get all the <2500 free plays

So only works with specific adventures by minsc favoured enemies can be humanoid, undead etc, Ezme's is undead, humanoids..., then jahiera gets mad if you kill humanoids, (maybe not undead?)...

With avren, he buffs every 15 secs for 30 secs (can increase to 60, but i tend to use the 300% buff) which buffs her support tag which increases the debuffs.

Using Krull works too and gromma slow down (and apparently havilar, but I don't have her yet).

However, I find Ezzy extremely useful, I am being sarcastic when I say "best champ ever" etc, but she has a place in certain circumstances. AND bonus, she can be used for Strahd.

95% of armoured bosses are not affected well or at all from donaars ult due to its very poor hitbox

You can sometimes get it via timing--if the boss is moving, activate it before it reaches your formation. But yeah. It's pretty bad.

But when it does work it's very impressive.
