familiar or 60 gold chests?

heya, so I'm by no means new but I'm definitly early,

i've bought several familiar packs and have about 16 familiars, i have 30k gems saved up to get the familiar but i could also get 60 gold chests with that. What i've been noticing is that i don't get, well much upgrades at all from gold chests anymore, So basically id just be buying them for the super rare chance of a feat right?

By evergreen you mean the starting champs correct? Not yet but im certainly not using most of them anymore.

i mostly use Celes, Hitch sometimes, and tyriel.
celes is all purple now

Evergreen = the ones you start with + Hitch, Drizzt, Azaka, Dragonbait
Having them all purple allows you to safely open any other gold chest (weekend, patron) without risking one of the evergreen stealing the epic equipment (as equipment always falls on a slot that doesn't have that rarity, if any) which is mighty annoying when it happens
I'm a firm supporter of familiars first, and hoard the weekend and patron chests until you have full evergreen epics

I am new so take this with that knowledge. But I find familiars more helpful than gold chests. Familiar is a constant thing, whilst gold chests only have a chance to give you gear, a chance to give you an epic and a chance to give you anything useful.

There are some perks to having familiars, aside from them doing the hard work. With three on the field (the spaces near where the enemies spawn) all drops are collected immediately, making runs more efficient. At six distractions are auto clicked. Distractions themselves aren't worth much though.

If you're willing to spend money on this, wait for sales. Familiars are typically 50% off.

When you have the +25% distraction value blessing, in the first levels they drop a pretty penny when you first start a TG/event. Sure, it soon-ish gets overtaken by normal mob deaths, but it's welcome.

If you have 16 familiars then you'd probably know if you need more familiars or not.

If I were you I'd leave the gems for what they are, and decide later.

Spending the gems on chests don't make sense for you because it's easier for you to just buy the chests with money instead.

EDIT: Also, a lot of twitch streamers use many, many familiars to stream the gameplay. Maybe it's necessary for you too.

You could also buy feats with those gems; just another option. But with 16 familiars already I can't imagine why you'd want more...

How did I miss that fact I cannot explain.
16 familiars is enough to do everything and then some! So yeah, @SupeTim's statement makes sense, what do you think would be improved by an extra familiar?
Gold chests to me make more sense in this context (chest feats, potions, contracts)

mainly cause i still havent gotten to the point where i can fully automate the game, which i enjoy having.

im not sure what you mean by leave the gems for what they are though. i definitly want to use them

Probably meant "wait until you know the answer to decide"
As someone who has 10, I say 15 are plenty for what you ma want to automate. hoarding 5000 gems is nothing long term, which is why I think chests now is a better option until you know if you want more familiars

All gem familiars are a priority, but since you already have 16 of them and don't have all purple on evergreens, I suggest you purple everyone first.
As ptor said, 'purpling' all your evergreens champs is important so they won't steal the soo desired epic gear for event champs when opening patron/weekend gold chests.
