Not so good at the wall, pretty much anyone else subbing in would give you an improvement so long as they had any gear at all.
With the wall theory, you put him in and let Nay tank. Build up her bonus a bit more, and it makes up for the DPS loss for having Jarl in your formation. You end up the same, you just reach an equilibrium point later with more mobs out. You still kill at the same rate, provided you aren't capping on mobs and they enrage. Even if you have to scale back 2 levels from your wall (wall -2), Jarl will still yield more gold than farming at your maximum wall. If you need to go back 3 levels, then it's not worth having him in your formation.
So yes, thank you Jarl for 61% more gold. But that's about all you're good for.
That swap should get you give or take 10-15 extra levels on most stages which should get you equivalent gold gain and more gems. Between his all damage and beast buff its a pretty significant swing in his direction over Jarlaxle.
Personally I run him on Tombs until ~170 and enemies start to hit my formation, then I swap to Stoki and a single DD. By then I'm usually skill capped with all but Calliope.
Before I spent all my favor on Swords - I ran him well into over-levels before swapping to Stoki - but there's a massive difference in what you can do with 2B gold find and 300M that I left it at before moving onward.
Stokis gold bonus dont add to makos' dark luck. You just get the double of the normal gold find.
What about jarlaxles gold find, does it add to gold I get when makos kills an enemy? And how does makos work with gold potions?
It is definitely multiplicative. With all of his buffs, he adds 61% to your GF (1.10^5), not just 50%.
It's been that way for a while. I can't quite remember if Makos had it before we added Stoki, or if players requested he get that added once they had seen Stoki's coin, but around then for sure.
