Delina guide

Hey everyone, I thought I would make a guide on how to use one of the more difficult characters in the game. This will not only help players, but also the devs can see how people are using her in her current state.

1. Who is Delina?

Many players may not know who this mage is. If you go to where Hitch is in your character screen, you can see his portrait up close. At the top right, there is an arrow to switch to a character called "Delina". You may have done this by accident once, but go ahead and switch now if you haven't.

Delina's backstory is that she is an elvish mage who has relied completely on people's assumptions about her to coast through life. As a young mage, she thought she was awesome, and didn't need anyone else. After her first year of mage college, where she learned the basics, she dropped out.

After her parents cut her off and kicked her out of the elvish tree house at the age of 120, Delina realized she needed to do something with her life. She decided to travel the roads and advertize she was an elvish mage. After all, they're renowned the world over for being some of the best mages! Playing into this, she suckered your party into taking her on, promising she just needed a little more gold to get better. All the while, she spends it on the side for wild elvish night parties when the player goes afk.

2. What are Delina's special abilities?

Delina is a pure dps class. That means she tells the party how awesome she is and needs all the gold and buffs. She will never buff or assist anyone beyond her fashion sense. Now with a fully graduated mage, this makes sense. A pure dps class focussing only on dps should do more damage. But because Delina is a dropout, she can't even beat out hybrid Minsc.

Delina's regular attack is a lightning bolt. Normally this is a level 3 spell that travels through enemies in a straight line, but hers is so weak it shatters and accidently hits another enemy. Upon hitting a foe, the electricity "burns" or "annoys" for a percentage of the initial damage. Kind of like when you shock someone with static electricity after maliciously rubbing your sock ladden feet on the carpet, and they're mad at you for a little while after. While burning over time seems more in line with fire then electricity, Delina never learned this in school.

When Delina is actually bothered to try, she will unleash ice storm. This is actually part illusion, as it only hits 3 enemies at most at a time, even though it appears to cover so many more. While Minsc's ultimate can potentially hit an infinite localized area of foes, does more damage than Delina's ultimate, and it makes five enemies take double damage for another 30 seconds, Delina flunked out of "ice spells 101". When asked why Delina ironically mentions its because she skipped classs to go to the market to buy slushies.

3. Where does Delina fit in my formation?

Delina is unique among all the champs in that she fits best on the sidelines. Once you catch on that she's simply riding on the stereotype that elven mages are the best, you can skillfully switch her out with Hitch, and never spend a dime on her partying ways again. The real lesson moving forward in life is to not make important decisions based on stereotypes. Pure dps classes will not always do the most damage. Characters later in the roster will not always add more to the party as they become unlocked. Sometimes characters are in fact useless, a valuable lesson in life.

4. Closing

I hope my guide helped you play Delina, and maybe let the devs know how the playerbase is using her most effectively. While it is impressive that she is the sole character to be utterly useless within the party, this ability might be gamebreaking when she is used. My hope is the devs flesh her out beyond a one-dimensional character, and maybe write a redemtion story somewhere. Maybe she finishes mage college after all in the future, or has some great epiphany like "fire burns, lightning should stun or something". Thanks for the feedback MINours! Yes, when Delina first joins, she's actually trying until she gets past her trial period where the party can fire her. Once she knows she's a permanent edition and its a pain to fire her, she goes back to her slacking ways. I still think its best to avoid giving her gold entirely to teach her that this behavior shouldn't be tolerated.

Maybe they should give her a mass debuff like favoured enemy with Minsc. But seems hard to get something good from her. The only good thing is that she is cheap, bu useless.

For Exemple , one " BIG & STRONG " ELF , Swap vs Jamilah or Arkhlan

with insane DPS ( same as this both heroes )
and multiple target / OR / very fast shooter ( 1 hit each 1 or 2 second )

with Arrow Rain in Ultimate ( AoE side )
Or
Shoot the Eyes ( Big DPS vs 1 Target = killer of Boss * )

Asharra bonding with elves and dwarves is the worst thing to get right now.
I will not say delina is horrible (but she is), the thing is Hitch is WAY BETTER than Delina at this point in the game.

Actual dev reminder that Delina's abilities have been broken since alpha, with ricochet and burn seemingly capped at the default 50% (while listed for me as 1.5k% or 500% respectively), plus the second burn might be based on the first hit's damage. One day we'll have a working base roster? Until then everyone test it yourself and ticket it I guess.

Delina was actually my dps for a while at the beginning (and I never got any gear for her at that point)! I kinda liked her, but I never liked that she so selfishly never buffed the others. At some point I had enough gold find to switch to Makos as dps, and as soon as I had access to 10 champions, Delina was the first to go. Of course it was *then* that all the chests started dropping Delina gear. I started switching between Makos and Minsc with a little Jamilah as DPS (because I don't minmax much and I like variety), but I didn't let Delina into that rotation. Her gear wasn't that great anyway.

Then we got Hitch, and I never saw Delina again.
