What is the best place to farm items and Exp?

For solo farming...

1) Low level accessory farming would be Desert Bee farming (there's an area near the first entrance which allows you to loop between certain bee minibosses)
2) Forest PKing
2a) Looping 4 enemy player spawns to get easy kills
2b) At the forest entrance, kill the 2-player spawn and then head towards the canyon to spawn in a party off in the distance. Kill with explosive weapons (with graviton shot) or an AMR Breakthrough 4 with Explosive Shot (should one-shot the group or get a kill in 2 skill casts). Turn around, head towards the tree+rock that are close to each other (loop around the tree) and head back to spawn that party again (kill and repeat).

If you have DLC...
3) Do both Grimodoom and then Elemental Wizard boss fight before quicktraveling to depths entrance.
4) Lost Gate midpoint 2 staircase farming (if you're going for AR Blue Rose)
5) White Frontier Bee power farming (XP, bounty, accessories, 2 types of weapons) route:

Spawn at the point near 8 and grapple up the cliff behind the dungeon entrance. You will be on the Plateau...

On area 8, there's a bee boss (+accessories). Kill it. Go to 10 and kill the bee miniboss (+accessories) there. Recommended to kill both artillery(+Sound Deadener 2) each run if you have enough damage to make it worth it. If you go past the chest at 10 (to kill second artillery), you can spawn in a Shock Crystal for extra XP (+Deneb Kaitos 4). Loop.

3, 4 and 5 at the least requires a Benet-4 gatling (low stat requirements and decent damage), buy one from the Rank 11 weapon shop (whenever its available).

If you have friends who can carry you, you can blow up the lvl275 tank in Coop in a few minutes with good weapons (a properly spec'd Grim Reaper can hit it for several million with explosive shot 4). Having +EXP stuff means you can easily get 20m+ XP per run and go from whatever to 285 in 2-3 hours.

Put on Extreme, go to Old South, Subway B, then Depths. The boss there is rather easy and quick to beat and gives just short of 200,000 exp. Then fast travel back to Depths and repeat. With having EXP boost on both me and ARFA-Sys, I've picked up nearly 220,000exp.

I see people suggest COOP play for leveling, but I gotta wonder being new to this game myself if I can solo it? Every time I have checked COOP, I've seen no one in it.

Yeah. Finally got to play online with others. Jumped really fast from like 110 or so to 145. Plus you can snag some good weapon drops, so do online if you can (just don’t try too late at night)

Thats a bloody awful way to solo level. Best solo is get an OP handgun of your choice (or anything really) that can kill the Flugel Heirophant boss. Kill it fast and run to the end before the body shatters. If you did it, it despawns before it "dies" and you can walk back, kill it again and then run to the end again. Dont need to teleport, just run back and forth. With a handgun using quickshot, you dont even use ammo so you can keep it up for however many hours you want without restocking.
