Use sniper rifle if it's possible to aim for the weak point, otherwise switch to dual LMG and just Tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu, enough for most PVE circumstance.
Dual weapon makes non-automatic weapons can be operated like fully automatic weapons, maybe also increase shots output.
Range is what makes more difference between SMGs and AR. It affect the stability and the size of the bullet circle and so the amount of bullets that will actually hit the target, especially with sustained automatic fire.
Minigun is the most powerfull weapon in the game dps-wise. But it require a dedicated build to be carried and used efficiently (STR+DEX), along with specific chips (accurcary, stability, heat build up), and specific skills to manage the heat. Their only downsides are that you loose most of your mobility when shooting them and they need a short wind up before they start firring.
Faster reload speed, double the amount of bullets fired, but the second weapon doesnt benefit from the chips of the first one (so half your bullets are kinda half-wasted, and same goes for sword and gun). Uh... look badass ? :o
