Dissonance of the Nexus - thoughts? (Spoilers)
Finished the expansion's story and I wanna hear/share some thoughts.

The story was...meh. It's really just a big excuse to get Yuna, Eiji, Seven and Sachi into the game. I only really enjoyed seeing the Alt GGO cast have a bigger role since they are ultimately much more entertaining characters. I was fine with it all but the Sachi subplot was so boring and irrelevant. She had almost no relevance that plucking her out of the story won't change a thing.

The only stuff I was interested to see was how they addressed the main story's terrible cliffhanger ending (since I love Itsuki and that climax was just...terribly written and frustrating. A can of worms for another day) I guess I'm glad that they showed Itsuki again and had him send the protag a message (THAT WAS ROMANTIC AS HELL Q_Q). I really wish they got to meet again but the very least that I wanted was that they address it somehow...even if it was only the last 10 minutes of the expansion quest which is kinda disappointing.
The way they tied the DLC ending over was...okay? It was very standard, with Lievre becoming an ally. I thought they would show her master/address Subtilizer's appearance but I guess that was purely for teasing the possibility of an Underworld game (which I hope is custom protag-based as well, I won't touch it if I have to play as Kirito)

At the very least, the dungeon and field is fun and at a satisfying length. I liked how they added in some puzzles and secret rooms to unlock at your own pace.

I think the Sachi subplot was a bit lacking as well. Also was happy to see the AGGO cast get a bit more screen time, as I really enjoyed their show. As for ending, this is my theory... Itsuki is somehow connected to RATH in some shape or form. That much is obvious from his ties with Prof. Shigemura at the end there.

I'm just not too sure how the player is going to transfer over into the Underworld. I'm not too far into Aliciziation atm, currently left off where Asuna had gotten onto the Sea Turtle ship (forgot what it was called) and haven't had the chance to watch newest episodes because of school.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they come up with. I'm assuming we probably won't be seeing this new game until this time next year... unfortunately. Unless they've been working on it behind the scenes which would make sense I guess. My guess is that DIMPS is going to be the devs again for the game, as I've seen that they've implemented data transfer mechanics from their games before. Would make it easy for players to continue off as their character from Fatal Bullet.

@AnimeAngel

I dropped the anime ages ago and don't care anymore. The anime with LLENN was pretty good but I can't stand watching stuff with Kirito and his group.

What I'm saying is... I don't know jack about Underworld and the Alicization.
But I can tell you this.
If Alicization part of the series doesn't involve guns then there is NO WAY IN HELL DIMPS would be working on it. It would probably be Aquria again. Possibly even Artdink especially if there is any magic. The dev's they choose to work on the games is based on dev's previous games that they have done.

DIMPS only done Fatal Bullet because it's a reskin of Freedom Wars which DIMPS already made many years ago.

Well if our protag can continue on story wise into Underworld and just like how Kirito's sword skills transferred into Underworld, I'm assuming it can be the same for our protag. Otherwise, it also makes sense for the protag to start from scratch like any new game you play. For them to end up in that world, I would assume they would be another tester like Kirito.

Regarding your theory about Itsuki, since he is connected to Prof. Shigemura, he might return in the Underworld game? Since that final scene in Ordinal scale which showed Shigemura in association with RATH because of his AI technology, Itsuki would be connected there too. If he was sent to observe Yuuna, then he might also become a tester like Kirito? The expansion ending (and achievement you get at the end) does suggest meeting Itsuki again and while it's sadly not in FB anymore, it could be an extra element into teasing a new game where they can meet again.

I also haven't been up to date with Alicization but I'll probably catch up out of obligation.

I don't know much about the people developing these games (since FB is the first and only SAO game I've played), maybe DIMPS would work on it soley for the data transfer mechanic, especially if it's gonna be another custom-protag game which has slightly different mechanics from the Kirito-centred games.

Though I guess with a setting revolving around using swords and magic (kinda), they would use similar systems from maybe Lost Song and Hollow Realization? So I guess that also means those other people might work on it...

All I really hope for is a data transfer mechanic of some kind, since that sounds pretty cool. Or at the very least have the FB protag continue onto Underworld story-wise, rather than have a totally new person.

What story? I like how you can finally get the P90 to drop from something other than LLENN now.

could you please tell how to get a message from Itsuki?

You get an implied message from him at the complete end of DLC4 a bit after the credits roll.
AnimeAngel Jan 19, 2019 @ 12:38pm
I honestly won't mind if any games after the next one aren't custom-protag and go back to being Kirito only again, as long the next game is a sequel to Fatal Bullet with the custom-protag in it again and they close the story. I just hope they give Itsuki a happy ending, the guy needs it desperately... XD

The story was pretty weak, yeah. It seemed like it tried to hard to be "fan service" and suffered as a result. I never really watched the anime or played any of the other games before SAOFB, but I still really enjoy this game. For the most part, the base game and even the previous DLCs did a very good job of not leaving newcomers to the series like me out in the dark about WTF was going on. This DLC didn't do so well at that.

But the only aspect of the DLC I really didn't like was all the ping-ponging back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth between the two groups' plots. It got really tiresome to have half the damn characters unavaliable at all times, and having to constantly restack my party was very annoying.

Also I think it was very uncool to remove your ArFA-sys from the active party roster for such a long time at the start. I have mine set up as a dedicated healer and support and rely on her quite a lot to keep the idiot partnet AI's alive. There was even a point in the plot where you have access to ZERO healers, because they also removed Asuna (and this was before Seven showed up).

Overall, I feel like the developers bent over backwards to try and accomodate two separate stories being run in paralell, and didn't put a lot of thought into what they were doing to party configurations by randomly removing half the characters every 5 seconds.

I thought the story was improved a lot compared to the previous content. I do have some gripes about this expansion though. In terms of sachi and kirito, being this is DIMPS first sao game, i was afriad they were going to fck this moment up. I watched season 1 and since this was a hard reference to one of the most tragic moments in SAO, its really important they get kirito's reaction correctly cause I dont remember Kirito recovering from that moment. And Lord and Behold its abit more than waht i expected and holy crap the scene he technically "saved" Sachi was almsot the exact same where he failed to bring her back. This symbolizes Redemption which I think Kirito deserves even though im not like a huge fan of him lol. Also Kirito always wanted a arfa. The dude keeps talking about it when he runs around with you and asuna. Definetly found it funny that he has one and its fking sachi lmao xD. This also opens doorways for DIMPS to continue their story since now we have lievre back. Obviously based on the usually pace shes gonna join us because of friendship. I love how she cringes as much as I do whenever those friendship power reason happens lmao. But she does show a sign of change which I kinda like cause it evolves her character.

I am glad they now put more effort in the cardboard character/filler we got in previous content. Good lord I didnt watch AGGO when I met those characters so I honestly forgot about them. Almost instantly. Funny enough even after I watch AGGO, I STILL FORGOT ABOUT THEY WERE IN THE GAME. So yea in terms of game alone, they have no value, which doesnt value the game at all. Basically I was forced to do my homework to like the characters lol (I did watch AGGO later). Now? The game actually got me to like the AGGO character a lot more. My dude M gets the hardest disrespect and doesnt have the balls to do anything about it lol. Dude literally looks like he crying on the inside when Pito doesnt recongizes his affection lmao. However one of my gripes was .... where the fk is the rest of the cardboards lmao. Yamikaze, Dyne, Musketeer, Shirley, Clarence, premier, etc. WHO ARE YOU! AND WHERES YOUR PART OF THE STORY! And please dont give the the excuse of oh you gotta play this or watch this. THAT DOESNT HELP THE GAME.

Ok so uhhh that part where singing progresses the players through the dungeon. The reason why I said "players" because this is a event hosted by zaskar to everyone and it was stated by kirito that he wants us to explore to the end before the other players. And yea I know there were was some outside influence (maybe the seed) that wormed ints way into GGO. So yea ummm wtf idk if DIMPS wants me to think zaskar forgot what game their working on but uhhh this is GGO right? SINCE WHEN SINGING WAS SO TIED TO THE GENRE OF GGO. Im not bashing the character that sings but when you have a game thats like anime Call of Duty, singing should be the last idea of the content. My problem is that this kinda fcks with the story's immersion cause we all know how DESTINY 2 or a anime scifi shooter will turn out if you have to sing to open a door. I dont get it. If we were to do this in ALO or SAO then I can see I being relavent to the genre to the game we're in. And to take this a step even further we have all the singers in GGO? lol. So this kinda fks with the story cause other squads are screwed. Im starting to think that this story involves zaskar dropping the ball and are going to get some backlash from reddit offscreen lol.

So yea ummm rank 11 weapons. This kinda confirms that we wasted our time farming for coop bosses on the last update. Now they drop from regular Fodder mobs and mini bosses lmao. OOOF and Argo deal now tells us, YOU GOT TO FARM ALL YOUR PERFECT WEAPONS AGAIN CAUSE NOW MY PRODUCT CAN GARENTEED MAX BASE STAT. Seriosly DIMPS? Can you stop holding my hand plz? Argo actually triggered me when she wanted me to buy these lmao. Its like saying oh now i bought this new pokedex, all the pokemon i encounter now have perfect IVS or shiny. seriously? WTF, now this lowers the engagement between ur buddies on whos the apex predator, because now the chances of having the same exact gun between u and ur buddy was GREATLY INCREASED.

So yea umm the mobs in this expansion are mostly reskinned. I do love the 2 new highlighted boss in this expansion but man just those 2 arent enough to get us interested 247 when WE SEE THE EXACT SAME ENEMIES 90% OF THE TIME. This is a new map so we we have like ohhh I dont know ummm new lifeforms like wolfves? polar bears? SOMETHING. HOW ABOUT A NEW LIFEFORM BOSS CAUSE WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH THEY'RE LACKING. Its to the point where having a lifeform chip on my weapon isnt worth lmao. Also has anyone asked why the mobs are there? Would your interest increase if there was a scenery reason why the mobs are there. I know the maps are big in FB but they can be shallow as a puddle compared to the size. Desert map? we can locations that have stuff but the rest of the map is blank. City map? ok so how much of the map is a city and how much of the map is blank? So yea umm I think Dimps can fix this by when adding a scenery reason for the mobs they want to spawn there. Its not like the every single mobs in the game spawns there with a purpose of waiting for you. I liked the new map but DAM I WAS IN COMBAT ALL THE FKING TIME. Turret shooting down on me while im fighting a fking army. ok so im gonna ufg up there and LORD AND BEHOLD, ITS STAR SCREAM!. Now I bodied them hard but I'm getting the vibe that the game is trying to fk us instead of the plot/scenery lol. If there was a reason in whats going on that caused this chaos then, yea I wouldnt have a issue with it cause it doesnt break the immersion. Now I didnt every single part of the map yet but dang does all the spawn felt bunched up with no scenery/plot reasons to why they're there.

I did notice the AIs improved which actually got me laughing. I havent died yet so i dont know if the rolling meme is fixed. Seeing the Rifle robots running around actually got me laughing cause they acted like fodder in previous content. So yea DIMPS uhhh thanks for the improvements.

We got new challenging bosses which im going by the experience ive heard of the people i know getting bodied lol. Now i think these 2 bosses are unqiue and harder than the previous highlighted boss because ive heard more people getting bodied by them than the other dlcs. My weapon art took out all 3 bars on the first one but i kept a open mind since im one of those hardcore grindy players lol. However the expansion does feel like the update that release the rank 11 weapon early was a mistake. That could just be me but going into this expansion with rank 11 weapons expecially the famous bravefire 4 ive been seeing on coop, would just support rushing though this dlc without appreciating the little things. I threw out of bravefire 4 and some of my rank 11 weapons and took my sweet a$$ time. Now ik we're op with rank 10 weapons but we still can get bodied pretty hard based on the people ive heard raging and it also doesnt really support the fact on giving us even more op weapons early?

Overall, I enjoyed this DLC. There were some stuff I thought DIMPS shot themselves in the foot with. I defintely didnt adress everything cause of the limited amount of letters i can put into the comment. I think the most important part to take from this is the improvements DIMPS did make in this title cause this isnt the first time they were abit off balance on some of thier decisions and execution on thier first time game ( xenoverse). This deffinetly makes me look forward on thier next sao content/ game as long as they keep this up and put in that work.
For now I give this a........ maybe around 6 or 7 out of 10 with 5 being average and this is me putting my fanboism aside for some of the characters and my protag xD. Im still looking through some stuff so my view can change based on what happens.

After completing the quest Yuna's Request after the credits (though you'll have to do a quest about Sachi before that)

The jumping between the two squads was fine for me. After all I enjoy the Alt GGO cast way better and it's lowkey funny to me because it makes the protag look so popular lmao.

Though I think it was somewhat necessary realistically, as the quest they were doing had activities to do both in and out of the dungeon (like that Queen of the Night machine). I guess having two groups stationed in and out of the dungeon makes things easier for the characters in general.

I honestly did not care for Sachi one bit, even in the anime. She was literally just one of the many scared, hestitant players who died so there was nothing special about her. And the fact that she is basically equivelant to a piece of cardboard regrding her relevance and actions in the expansion, made her subplot COMPLETELY irrelevant that it lowkey ticked me off watching the 'sad' scenes. Because it's just useless fanservice for a character practically overshadowed and forgotten.

The game is lacking in A LOT of areas outside of the action and fighting, like romance routes, diversity in enemies and basically the protag's interactiveness. Its honestly so ridiculous that they keep adding in new characters but don't bother to add in anything aside from their appearance in battle, like chatting events and such.
Also yes the reskinned enemies is kinda annoying but I feel numb to it at this point, though I'm also quite annoyed with how EVERY dungeon looks almost the same; like some mechanised base. Like we can't get more natural-looking dunegons like caves, city buildings and temple ruins? It's basically the same dungeon over and over just with different coloured walls or something.
And regarding our protag, I was lowkey salty that none of the custscenes featured them, even taking the lazy route and making it look first person. I personally love seeing my custom protag active in cutscenes so this is just my personal gripe, idk about others. At the very least the characters looked more expressive and animated in the simple talking sections.

Also yes the reskinned enemies is kinda annoying but I feel numb to it at this point, though I'm also quite annoyed with how EVERY dungeon looks almost the same; like some mechanised base. Like we can't get more natural-looking dunegons like caves, city buildings and temple ruins? It's basically the same dungeon over and over just with different coloured walls or something.

this. like this is my main complaint in the game. i understood back then for the other 3 DLCs because they werent that big, but Dissonance of the Nexus is marketed as an expansion pack and i was expecting new types of enemies (well we did get 2 new bosses) to freshen up the combat side of the game.

that and yeah i also agree that we need new environments for dungeons i mean like every dungeon including the "Cave" (looooool) dungeon and the "Abandoned Road" (honestly, when i first played, i was expecting this to be a highway with a dried up sewer area) are just concrete bunkers or spaceship interiors of some kind

we need some more variety along with every new zone/area they add.

Hopefully after this game they'll learn from all the downfalls and touch ups they needed to do, since this game fell short in a lot of areas. Though Underworld is more likely to be the next game, hopefully they have variety of enemies and environments as well.
