Not to mention Sony's ridiculous backwards-compatibility efforts. It's literally a cheaper and better experience to buy a PS3 than maintain a PS Now subscription, and then you get access to a huge library of PS2 and PS1 titles as well.
Oh, and speaking of subscriptions, how about that $60 a year PS+ requirement for online gameplay? If you're lucky, the free monthly games might justify the cost, but that's a big "if" these days.
Compare all that to PC which is customizable to fit your performance standards--even 4K 60 FPS if you want it badly enough. Backwards compatibility exists for pretty much the entire history of videogames, including console games thanks to emulation. The only subscription you pay for multiplayer is your ISP. Do the math, and you'll find that the cost of buying a PS4 plus a few years of PS+ and maybe some PS Now easily meets or even exceeds the cost of building a gaming PC.
Sony has sent the message loud and clear that I should only buy a PS4 game if I want to regret it later when a superior PC port releases, or in 5 years when the PS5 remaster comes out.
Or... I can just buy my games on PC in the first place, have a great experience today, and still be able to enjoy the game for the foreseeable future without re-buying for compatibility with the latest hardware.
It's also worth mentioning that PC has great support for controllers, can do remote play in a variety of ways, easily capture screenshots/video, and just about any other modern console convenience. The only thing missing is a true console UI to simplify the setup process, but that's a small price to pay.
If playing with friends is the only thing causing you to consider the PS4 version, tell them to buy PCs :)
I think you got the question wrong (sorry if I did something wrong), but I meant that I have both, a PS4 and a PC (Which I play on a 1440p 144hz monitor and I got a 1080 TI), but my friend only has a PC.
He has a PS3, but not the PS4.
And the thing is, we play CSGO a lot together, like 5 times in a week and for like at least 1 hour daily... We really enjoy playing with each other.
And I'm buying this game for PC, just because he doesn't own a PS4.
My question was, basically, which version of the GAME (not gaming platform) do you like the most and why, just a healthy discussion, I was curious about what the community thinks...
But regardless, I agree with everything you said, it's pretty dumb to buy a PS4 Pro (at least if you're not rich) if you have a normal PS4, there's literally no difference, other than graphics and better framerate...
Which obviously I don't mean to say is irrelevant, but it's not worth just buying like a whole new console just for [a little] improvement... Now, if the specs were to match Xbox One X's, then I would see a reason to buy it, but as a PS4 owner, there's no reason to upgrade at all...
And yes, the PS4 has very poor optimization or I guess you could say they don't care if you have a normal PS4, they just make their games based off the PS4 Pro, which leads to terrible FPS on some games, such as "The Last Guardian" in which the fps drops to like 10-15 constantly and there aren't even a lot of things happening in the game, considering the graphics to force the fps to drop below the 20's...
Now, if they made optimizations, or at least there wasn't a PS4 Pro, I could guarantee you that the game WOULDN'T drop below 30...
But the ONLY reason why I consider buy games for the PS4 instead of the PC, is because the PS4 has a bigger playerbase and active players than the PC has... It doesn't really make much sense to me... I'm pretty sure people own a PS4 instead of a good PC just because the previous consoles were "mainstream" in the early 2000's and people couldn't afford a good enough PC to play games...
But now it just doesn't make any sense, even though PC's are still considerably more expensive than consoles, I don't really need to explain why they're better, right...?
If every PS4 owner would at least put time into research they would rather buy a PC, but honestly in pretty sure most people that don't have PC's are because they think they're "complicated" to use, or they just prefer a laptop for some reason...
Because if you were to tell me that they own a laptop because you can use it everywhere, then why do people have powerful cellphones like the iPhone's? It really doesn't make any sense... They can do pretty much everything 90% of the laptops can do...
Right, well, it's pretty much the same game on PS4 and PC, and the main factors differentiating the two versions are the same as most PS4 games, so I answered in a more general fashion.
Based on what I've seen, SAO on PS4 struggles to maintain a stable framerate in busier areas, and certainly can't go as high as PC, period. Antialiasing and texture filtering are barely present compared to PC. It's the usual console shortcomings all across the board.
Things like that might not ruin the experience, but when I know a PC version exists without these problems, it definitely affects my ability to enjoy the game. The fact that I also know it's a worse value because it's tied to a specific piece of hardware with an expensive premium online service is the real kicker, though.
I can see why you'd argue those aren't elements of the game itself, but they are an inevitable part of buying it on PS4. And your original question was "Which version to buy - PC or PS4?" So, yeah. I think that deserves to be taken into consideration.
I mean like taking in consideration the elements of this game, not framerate or things like resolution, I mean like, (An example) if the game is loot based and you like to play multiplayer the PS4 would get a point because the coop wouldn't die as soon as on the PC, or if the game is loot based but the multiplayer sucks, so there would be no reason to buy it on the PS4, as you wouldn't need to play coop...
That's what I mean, things about this exact game, not all the games as a whole, gameplay mechanics that only this one has, or a story that only this one has...
And then tell me what do you think is the mechanic that attracted you the most in this game, and then tell me in which version of the game would you/I be able to use it to it's fullest potential...
So, is there anything in particular you like about the PC version of the game, or is it just better framerate and graphics? Not considering specs or things of the sort
I have yet to see a standard PS4 suffer vs a PS4 Pro at their respective resolutions. Actually I've only seen the opposite where PS4 Pro performs slightly worse @ 4K.
Now i have to pay the psn+,♥♥♥♥ em
Yeah, that definitely happens too, which is depressing for Pro owners.
Look at Monster Hunter World for an example of the former, though. FPS struggles to hit 30 on base PS4 and can't quite hit 60 on Pro. Neither runs at native res. Had it only been one console or the other, it's possible PS4 players would've gotten a more consistent experience.
Honestly, the thing that I'm most excited for is that it was developed by Dimps. I absolutely adored Freedom Wars on PS Vita (also made primarily by Dimps) and it looks like they got to hold on to the rights for a lot of their code and assets, because it's REALLY obvious a lot of it made it into SAO:FB. Considering the way the PS Vita got treated by Sony, the idea of having Freedom Wars on PC running in Unreal Engine 4 is super exciting to me. Don't have to worry about the platform going obsolete or weak WiFi getting in the way of multiplayer. So you see, the platform really is a big part of it for me.
As to what made Freedom Wars, and by consequence SAO:FB special? It's tough to put a finger on it, exactly. It's just the combination of movement with the grappling hook, melee/gun-based combat, sci-fi atmosphere, custom characters, and so on. None of those things are really unique, but put together the way Dimps does them, it's just great.
I see where you're coming from, it really does look like a great game, I never had any portable consoles such as PSP/Vita, etc... But if I did I would surely buy this game, the grappling really reminds me of Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), but overall it really does look like 70% of Fatal Bullet was based off of this game...
