Still didn't answer my question why they do more damage on longer ranges than ARs. It is just a common sense. Even in GGO they are not that good.
But to answer your question. Video game logic. Or bullet calibur. 9millimeter is bigger than standard AR bullets which 5.56/7.76 (I think, i'm not looking this up just speaking off my mind/ out of my ass lol)
And pistols needed to have reasons to be used. The only pistol that does more damage than an AR at longer ranges are single fire, and the only AR that does more damage than pistols because its basically a marksman rifle is Lupus 3, since its burst fire.
The only way they have higher crit rates and damage is if you put chips that have that on them.
AR's and SMG's are still viable if you have the right one and right chips. This is an MMO style game. Meaning it has a meta, the meta is who can do the most damage quickest. Because no one cares about how much ammo they use.
And just like MMO's some play styles/classes will be useless and irrelevant. Because of certain abilities/skills
The good AR is Alphubel. High fire rate while still having good other stats. And with trigger happy 3 its not only faster than a minigun but reloading will be very quick making it a minigun
The good SMG is Sirius 3. For the same reasons and use trigger happy 3 for the same reason.
And who would use a shotgun anyways? Its almost as dumb as using a rocket launcher or nade launcher. Who cares if you area damage or don't get affected by the enemies armor. If you can hit the weak spot you win.

I can tell from testing alone that pistoles have the highest crit damage, my handguns do 4k crit damage per bullet and up to 10k crit on weakspots, that is with no crit damage modifying weapons.
Balance. Plus some handguns can do more damage than an assault rifle, like magnums or large calibur bullets for example. Also trying to bring real world logic into an anime based game disguised as an mmo doesn't fit well. Obviously there's no way they can mimic every nuance of reality and honestly it's a game meant for fun, not for serious gun nuts. If you want to bring reality into it, though, then why doesn't your gun jam every 5 minutes in the desert level? ARs/SMGs are meant for run and gun play while handguns are meant for more accurate shots because they have a higher base weak point multiplyer/crit rate/damage to balance out RPM (Rounds per minute) for accurate gunplay.
SMGs generally are lighter, requires lower stat requirement to both use and dual wield and generally have a faster fire rate. They are more suited to close range run and gun tactics as well as spraying down the enemy.
ARs on the other hand are less nimble in general, but make up for per shot damage, weak spot damage and ranged damage . While they can be used as spray weapons, they are best employed as precision weapons to hit enemy weak spots. This makes the AR class considerably versatile and generally fit in many situations.
