The 60 FPS Problem
So we already know what unlocking the game's framerate for those who have higher refresh rate monitors than 60hz really messes with the game and AI. That's kind of expected with Japanese PC ports at this point since so many of them tie game logic to framerate. But if you've been eating seemingly unavoidable lasers to the face, wondering how the hell you're supposed to play when all the enemies seem so accurate or so forth, there's one piece of advice I can give to you: turn the FPS back down to 30.

Turns out the 60 FPS itself, even within the official game options, was not accounted for. While character animations and such work properly, small things like the camera door zoom practically almost dive into the door. But it's not the small things one should worry about, it's the big ones. And the biggest one is that enemy speeds, bullet line accuracy/tracking and so forth are boosted notably. At 30 FPS, you can near-reliably sidestrafe around Barrage Automatons and avoid most damage; at 60 FPS, you'll be taking a lot of hits. At 30 FPS, you can sprint and outrun the lasers that get charged up, but at 60 FPS, they actually move faster and track better, so they become nigh unavoidable besides almost frame-perfect dodges, and that only works on the burst lasers that fire for a moment. Even those beast monsters that sprint around are affected, as at 60 FPS they think they're a certain blue hedgehog and zoom off at the speed of sound and out of shooting range.

I don't know if the developers will ever see this, much less any sort of US community manager that could tell the Japanese developing team about the problem, but if certain bosses seem undefeatable because of attacks you can't dodge whatsoever, or there's some weird behavior in the game itself, try to not play at 60 FPS. Which sucks, because i'd much prefer to do so, but it really messes with some stuff.

Yep, this needs more attention as there are a LOT of things that are tied to FPS that need to be fixed. What you mentioned is true, and I also believe that sniper sway is more severe on 60 FPS. I'm not sure if 60 FPS affects it, but if you go higher then it breaks your AI teammates and you can't switch weapons properly. There are a lot of things the devs need to fix with this port, I sure hope they are made aware somehow and end up patching them. The game has a lot of potential.

So 30 FPS lock prevents certain NMs from just running a marathon lap around the zone for no reason? Does 60 FPS also have any influence on enemy respawn times?

in theory someone could change the coding to allow 120FPS (or uncapped) but aparently thats not allowed cause these devs dont want us touching the game files whatsoever :P

I've noticed at least for me that at 60fps the sensitivity is a lot higher than at 30 fps, the problem is, I'm so used to 60fps nowadays that 30fps feels a lot more choppy, even though I used to be fine with it, but it really seems noticeable on these newer games.

The game itself is ok, but damn, is this a bad port.

Ok so I've been playing with the FPS locked to 30 now for about 45 minutes and the findings are not pretty. Of course the sensitivity is already known,weapon swapping doesn't just decide not to work, and yes, the AI acts differently as well. They're less all over the place and not only that, but I'd say the nail in the coffin is that the AI also spams voice lines less. Everything about this game was designed around 30 FPS.

True,but I'd say that was on a whole other level.
DIMPS does have quite a bit of experience with PC though and so does BAMCO.

So fps responsible for strange stuff like,AI acting stupidly,abilities and gadgets being eaten by the game,literally,when you use those,and me turning into Sonic during sprint when fps shifts a little.

I just noticed setting the game to 30fps eliminates the sound issue with high RoF weapons...

Can we expect a patch soon to fix all the problems ? It's my first SAO game, I really don't know how the dev team work for fixing bugs.

Maybe this game was designed by a different, newer team at DIMPS. What I can tell is that it was made with consoles in mind first, which have a 30 FPS cap with dips in performance as is. Games like Xenoverse 2 are 60 FPS on console and PC so that's probably why that game isn't as wonky in comparison due to being built with it in mind.

On the other hand some folks are saying that Unreal Engine 4 inherently has measures for this sort of thing, so it may of just been sloth or habitual coding designs of whoever worked on the programming.

Feels like it's easier to dodge bullet lines while still having 60fps. AI feels better too (They don't constantly roll when trying to revive me

I think part of the 60FPS and it breaking the game has some charm to it :) As in the fact that the game isn't easy as cheese is a real treat if you ask me.

Might be a placebo effect but if you set the game to 30fps in the options then set the framerate to 60fps in the GameUserSettings.ini (AppData\Local\SAOFB\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor) it feels a tad better.
