What happens after the story end?

I chose to play Kirito Mode and defeat Death Gun.
Then I went back to complete my own story with Itsuki and Death Game line.
After the story ended I had no choice but start a new game with a whole new character and arfaSys (but current stats, items, skills, etc) and now I have to replay the story from the beginning and can't play online coop until I get there in story...
It's kinda disappointing that they want us to play the story over and over again.

Is it possible I missed something or this is how it works?
What is this game about? Playing Hero and Avatar Mode, Online Coop with Boss Fights Only?

Story end, you either rewind and stay in NG (story progress is returned back to fighting the end boss in console room in flugel) or continue to title and start NG+ (all quests and affinity level reset, even the tutorials has to be done again)

NG+ has the benefit of finding weapons of rank up to 7. Also the enemies start at level 75+. Also a chance to unlock another ending...

You don't have to do NG+ for the upgraded enemies/higher ranked weapons. Just need to switch to extreme. NPC players were also level 125-ish in the first zone.

False, you need to do NG+ in order to be able to upgrade your weapons to lvl 7. It is tied to story progress in Extreme so there is an actual reason to do NG+.

Falseeee again =)). After the game you receieve extreme mode. Turn that one and you get access to weapons up to rank 7. No need NG+ or anything. The one that is tied to story progress is liz's shop. Her shop will level up after meeting certain missions in extreme mode. That way you can upgrade your weapon to rank 9 ( if you have rank 7) I dont think they drop anything higher than 7 and the cap rank of a weapon is 9.

its make a drffent story if you want to safe zeliska or kureha, what happend here?
