If I set it to windowed mode, which I'm not crazy about because it has a border and is covered by my task bar, pressing A at the start menu forces the game into borderless mode. In borderless mode it seems fine at first, but the menu is scaled up, options menus extend past the bottom, and the advance doptions menu disables most mouse and keyboard inputs (requiring the game to be forced off).
I've been trying to use Borderless Gaming with it, which has fixed problems in other stubborn games, but it just causes more weird behavior. Was trying to hide the taskbar while in windowed mode with it, and I had to restart my PC to get it back.
I've clocked over half an hour, 1/4 of my refund window, just trying to get this game to run like every other game, even some that are pretty old.
This is the first SAO game I've tried, and I've spent more time in a text editor messing with the config file than I have actually playing. I was on the fence about getting it for PC or PS4, and PC seemed like a better deal overall (10 bucks cheaper, free game), but at least on the PS4 it would just work.
and it being too low system requirement makes everything run way faster than usual. Im on max settings at 60FPS and it seems too fast and smooth that it feels weird haha.
It's like the game is running in a 2560x1080 window, but displaying its content in a 1920x1080 window within that, and then something is breaking that's disabling inputs.
I deleted everything in the config folder, which causes them to be replaced when the game launches, and the same thing happens.
doesnt even windowed mode works? your screen resolution shouldn't matter for that o.o
Windowed mode doesn't work. It did, once. Then I tried changing settings, and the game has been broken since. If I edit the config file so it launches in windowed mode, the game forces a switch to borderless windowed mode, which scales the game weird, breaks menus, and disables gamepad and keyboard inputs.
Despite having a 21:9 monitor, I haven't had to deal with anything like this in any other game. Even games that don't have proper 21:9 support will run fine in a window, or borderless, or can even be run in a maximized window without issue.
Even if a game doesnt support it playing Minimized should still make it work as lower res is lower than the default rez
So this game hates widescreen to play it I have to set desktop resolution out of game to 1920x1080 and then I can play no problem.
If you don't you can't go and change any settings as you can't select anything.
Developers please fix .
This is actually not a viable workaround, because on a 21:9 monitor the game is stretched horizontally to fill the display, the distortion is very noticeable. So in order to get fullscreen without stretching, changing the desktop to a lower resolution actually is necessary.
The only option that doesn't seem to break in some way is windowed mode, which is partially covered by the taskbar. Either the taskbar must be hidden while playing, or the game must be run in an even smaller window.

This day and age I am surprised that 2560 x1080 isnt supported.
