Sata ports
in the game there is a server case that would suport 8hdd and 2 ssd however there is not motherboard with that many sata ports in the game or any hba cards, if there was that would be perfect but there isn't sad face.

The PSUs are more limiting than the boards, you can only connect three drives.

it is a bit stupid that they added a case that can handle 10 drives but not the harware to support it yet.

Because it's not "Server Building Simulator", the game is (nearly all) about gaming PCs or PCs specially build to show off certain 3Dmark scores.
Servers and workstations won't come except the mind of the devs changes.

Most AMD Threadripper and Intel X299 HEDT motherboards have 8 or more sata ports.

I haven't looked at all of them but at least one board in-game "ASUS ROG STRIX X299-E GAMING" does have 8 sata ports on it. I just confirmed that looking at the real life version. I don't know if these boards will fit in that case or not though.

The 1600 watt power supply allows a lot of drives. I have connected up to 10 hard drives once in the large EVGA SuperTower case with that power supply and and AMD Threadripper motherboard. It worked and they all showed up in the system info in the OmegaOS after it was booted to desktop.

We talk about the Silverstone CS381 here (it's the one "NAS case" you told me few days ago, so I tried it out in the free build what I can do with that / how many drives) and you can only put in the small PSUs which have very limited connections (I could only connect 3 HDDs, the system is on M.2).

The other available PSU brand has one drive connector less, if I remember right. The problem is the game has no cables with multiple plugs like we have in real life, only point-to-point (easier for game mechanics).

But in case of the EVGA DG-8something you would be correct.

(Edit: Ignore the 3Dmark score, I had replaced the RTX with 1030 for trying out to get more plugs)

I just went in game to try a build in this case and I can confirm that the biggest motherboard that the game will allow us to put in this case is the EVGA X299 Mini with 6 drive ports.

I haven't yet had a chance to look at the power supplies. I'll look at that in a minute.

And yes I know you're discussing the Silverstone CS381 here. I was just trying to state that other configurations are possible in the game. Probably not with this computer case though.
Okay I finally today have people IRL leaving me alone and I can get time to play with this. Using the EVGA X299 Micro motherboard in the Silverstone CS381 combined with the FSP Dagger Pro 650W power supply I was able to install and connect the data and power cables for up to 6 hard drives maximum in this case.

So that's the most we can currently do at the moment. This motherboard does have a SAS connector on the motherboard and supports another 4 hard drives. But unfortunately we do not have any form of SAS Fan-out cable in-game to connect these. I do not know if the power supply could connect additional hard drives either. And this means the SSD ports on top can not be used if you install 6 hard drives in this.

I mean the game is called "PC Building simulator" not "Gaming pc building simulator" and they added a rack mountable case. I am a server geak and woukd love to sea this concept added to the game with things like dule socket motherboards and hba cards along with redundant psu and the feature to have a sata harness instead of just 1 cable.

Sorry you're over thinking it. No workstation motherboards (dual socket) will be in the game ever. No dual power supply systems either. The developers already stated so previously back in early access.

This, the name says it all: PC aka personal computer, a regular person doesn't need up to M or N drives, most people just need 1TB or 2TB and average Joe's would mostly use half of a TB. And unless you're one of those pro gamers that get sponsored builds like NASCAR cars you don't need a dual processor, in fact if you were one of those you wouldn't trust your PC to a humble workshop on an apartment.

But also, the minimum requirements for the games are totally nuts or upside down

sad when they give you the define R6 case, able to house up to 14 drives, but no mean to use em all.

We are discussing the "Silverstone CS381" computer case in this thread, as mentioned above in the first few posts. No one is discussing the Define R6 here in this thread. That has nothing to do with this thread.

I tried this combination and can only connect two Harddrives to power. What did I do wrong? But for SATA, 6 Harddrive's works. Screenshots:

PSU that support 3 Harddrive's:
- SilverStone SX650-G
- SilverStone SX500-G
- Fractal Design Ion SFX-L Gold 650W
- Fractal Design Ion SFX-L Gold 500W

PSU that support 2 Harddrives:
- FSP Dagger Pro 650W
- FSP Dagger Pro 550W

I would really like to build a NAS or server in this game xD
Otherwise, give me a server building simulator (DLC?).

Did you use the auto-connect tool in free build mode? I always do. That might be the issue. The game might be able to connect them automatically but not manually. Also I installed the hard drives and it's cage *FIRST* with this system. Then I installed the heatsink and the system ram later. If you build it out of order you will have problems. This case must be assembled in the correct order.

Nope! This is *NOT* the point of this game. They never will have any form of server gear nor NAS gear in this game. Even though this chassis is technically a "server chassis", that's only by name.

Also just to be clear: Just because you can assemble a computer in this game or in real life that has a lot of hard drives in it does not mean it's a "NAS". Sure you can use it as that, but it's not it's design purpose. Technically a "NAS" is describing the off-the-shelf network-attached-storage systems by like Synology and other companies. That's what I'm referring to. Those sorts of "NAS Systems" will never be in this game. And building our own computer with drives in this game is not a "NAS" either.
